I'm looking to get a DS3 and a 6400 but i've read there's been compatability issues with some RAM.

As the prices for RAM have suddenly gone up for some reason i've become a bit more limited as to what to get but i'm looking at either:

£140.99. G.Skill 2GB DDR2 LA PC2-5400 (2x1GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-5400PHU2-2GBLA) (MY-012-GS) with 4-4-4-12 timings, 667Mhz.

or

£152.74. G.Skill 2GB DDR2 NR PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400PHU2-2GBNR) (MY-014-GS) with 5-5-5-15 timings, 800Mhz.

Do either have issues with DS3? If not which would be better at stock and for a medium overclock upto about 2.8Ghz?

I have the higher end g.skill hz memory here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231065

It is awesome. I Would highly recommend it. IF you look on the xtremesystems.org forums 90% or more of the people that are getting the best oc are using this memory. It has micron chips. Unfortunatly they have kept raising the prices of it though because its very popular. I have seen no compatability problems with it at all. You just want to stay away from OCZ Gold & Platinum (unless you get revision 2) RAM. Especially Gold. Peole having been having major compatability problems with these modules and P965 boards. I don't think its actually ocz fault rather intel or award but it doesn't matter if it doesn't work it doesn't work. I don't think you will have any problems getting 3.2ghz with any modules. Its just when you try to go beyond that that you will have problems. Currently i have my e6400 OC at 3.6ghz :).

Thanks. Yea seems all RAM is going up in prices, the Corsair sticks I was looking at went up £30 as well. Just looked at the HZ stuff and it's out of my price league at £205.

Can only find 1 place in the UK that sells G.Skill (overclockers.co.uk) as well which is a buggar.

you need to know that the DS3 does not allow for Micron D9 based ram to run above 950mhz.
this is an issue totally surrounding the DS3 . the dQ4 and the DQ6 motherbaords do not suffer from this. which is very frustrating since the DS3 is by far the best selling baord in gigabyte's conroe line up.

i am waiting word from someone on a new SPD rom for the gskill 6400 HZ's that may allow for the ram to run above 950mhz.
you flash the SPD chip ont he ram using a program called Typhoon.

but for now, there isnt anything wrong with the ds3 and gskill but be warned. some modules require more volts to boot and the ds3 will only boot ram that is capable of booting at 1.8v.
the ram must be programmed to boot at a lower speed and timing.
one kit that will NOT is the PHU2-64002gbZX this kit requires no less than 2.2v to boot.
it also suffers the same fate as the HZ does it maxes out around 950mhz FSB.

this is ok for 1:1 overclocking but if you want to run a 2.5 2.6 or higher ram divider it wont work.

check my sig for my stff it works VERY well together but i am losing performance since the ram isnt able to run as high as it can in other boards.
but its the type of performance that you would only see in benchmarks.
