DS game advice

It's my fiance's nephew birthday in a week. He'll be turning 8. He is already a big gamer. He specifically asked me to find him a really hard game because he beats all the games he gets on the DS in about a week or less. I cant remember all the games he has beaten, but I know Zelda, Robots, Kung Fu Panda, harry potter, are ones that he got through really quick.

I debated getting him metroid or fire emblem, but I don't know how he would do with those since he has never played those genre of games before.

any advice

Any of the advanced wars should be sufficiently difficult for him. Some of the missions are pretty damn hard and you really have to think your strategy.

Advanced Wars is an excellent choice. Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift should take him a while.

He beat Zelda ALREADY? HOLY SHIT

That is one smart kid.

Give him a taste of Phoenix Wright or maybe Hotel Dusk ...or just Pokemon

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass was kinda easy compared to the older Zelda games on GB and GBA... I couldn't get into Apollo Justice, I thought it's really lame. Try Trauma Center 1 or 2, those should kick his ass.

Ditto. If he enjoys turn based strategy games, Advanced Wars DS (several versions prior to DS version, but might as well get the DS version which is the latest version) has 100s and 100s of hours of playablility and replayability. It has a long single player campaign. It has several dozen single player scenarios. It has a 'grading' system to drive the perfectionist in us to replay missions until we get a 'S' (Superior as opposed to an 'A' or 'B' or 'C'). It also has multiplayer if others around him have a DS and the game.

Of course, if he does not enjoy turn based strategy games (I see none yet in your ownership list), then he may hate it. Them young'ens consider turn based strategy games as 'old school', at least until they actually spend time to learn them, and then they are addicted like the rest of us.

Puzzle Quest, not really hard per se, but he probably hasn't played many games that make him think, so he might enjoy it.

I'd vote for Final Fantasy Tactics A2.
It stars a little boy and will take more than a week to finish everything.
It also teaches good strategy skills instead of mindless button pushing.

I thought about RPGs and Strategy games... just don't know if an 8 yr will get into those games. Contra 4 sounds extremely tough, I'm not trying to set an example 😉

I was thinking Castlevania: Dawn of Sorry, the sequel.

I vote for fire emblem, certainly will not be beaten in a week due to the lenght of the game and not an easy game either. I've only played the GBA fire emblems though. I know the one with the green haired ninja girl has a tutorial at the start of the game so it should be easy to get into.

It'll probably take longer then a week to get but you should buy him an R4 or something along those lines. He'll love you forever.
