I am building a new e6600 system with Cosair ddr2800 ram. I need a mobo. Please help me choose between DS-3 or P5B or P5B-e?

Also, what is the difference between the P5B and P5B-e? From what I can tell the "e" just has an extra Sata port.

P5B-E would be my choice.

The P5B-E is the C2 revision (brand new) 965 chipset; P5B is C1.

i also want to know. what else makes the p5b-e a good choice? i just noticed it finally made it on neweggs site.

i was originally going to get a p5b deluxe but this one is cheaper. i dont know what to get because im a newb and this motherboard is the only thing i cant figure out. again this is cheaper so if this is a good board i can use the xtra cash to jump into a 22" samsung lcd.

i wonder if this board would work great "out of the box" since i dont know how to flash or fix anything :/

Any 1gb sticks of DDR2-800 should work fine as long as it doesn't require more than 2.1v as this first revision will only go up that high for ram voltage. Supposedly, a new revision of the P5B-E is already in the works that will support ram voltage up to 2.4v.

Enthusiasm among extreme overclockers is fueling the C2 craze right now. The only real advantage I can see for C2 over C1 is the ability to more easily clock 500MHz+ FSB. For 99% of us, 500MHz+ is pointless since it won't happen out-of-the-box. For 100% of us, it's pointless since no one has shown a 500MHz overclock to be stable 24x7, which is important for anything more than running benchmarks (i.e. SuperPi and Prime95).

IMHO, the advantages of the P5B Deluxe over the P5B-E is more than worth the $40 premium. Heatpipe northbridge cooling. 8-pin EPS12V connector, which might provide tangibly better 4-core power support. Dual x16 PCIe (8x8 when CF or SLI). Black PCB. Dual ethernet (not an advantage to me, though). For an extra $20, WiFi.

And that's just right now, since the P5B Deluxe will be transitioned to C2 shortly.

But by all means, if someone intends to overclock for overclocking's sake, then the P5B-E is for them.
