Drywall question: What's a good rate for someone to install drywall in your garage?

Just curious what you guys/girls think is a good rate. I need about 6-7 sheets installed in my garage. There is good amount of cutting to be done as well.

Thanks

Exactly, it's just a garage. Score, snap, cut the other side, install. If you mess up, get a new piece.

Its a lot easier than you think. As long as you have someone with you to hold the drywall up while you screw it in (a power screwdriver really helps).

Get any type of blade, measure the length you need, transfer the measurement to the drywall, hold up a yardstick, cut with blade along yardstick, break drywall, trim with blade if needed, screw into wall.

I'll do it for $20 cash per hour but you could probably get a couple of late teens, early twenty year old kids to do it for $10 per hour.

It might be worth it to watch you slice the drywall with your katana and use throwing stars to hold it in place :p

I got one quote from a guy that wanted like $200.00 which I thought was out of line considering the drywall only cost about 2 bucks a sheet or something. I guess I'll look into doing it myself and maybe save a little cash.

That is actually a good price.

Doing drywall properly takes a lot of practice. If it is your garage I guess it wouldn't matter.

I know it's only the garage but it would look a little weird if the majority of the garage was finished and there was like a few spots that were not drywalled and painted.

I meant more the quality of the work. Drywall work in theory is easy. Doing it right is not.
Since it is in your garage and a small area the difference between you doing it and a professional doing it will likely not be too noticable.

I think it's 2x the cost of the drywall. Womething like that.

Or is it 3x? There is a multiple.... one of the following:
1.5x
2.0x
2.5x
3.0x

Or do as the some pros do. Nail everything up with with fewer nails/screws than needed. A good practice if you are borrowing a friend.

Then when hung, go back and start screwing.

Oh and BE SURE to tell them if you want it taped and stuff. if you just want it hung, that $200 quote is probably aaccurate. It's a garage, so that was probably hte guys assumption.

$200 buck is cheap if that includes tape, mud, and sanding. He will have to come to the site at least two or maybe three times due to drying time between coats of mud.

I usually use $150 minimum charge for drywall repair on homeowner's insurance claim estimates.
