Dryer vent kit

Typical dryer has the exhaust duct out the back.

I just moved into a place where the exhaust is through the floor. The bottom of my dryer has a cutout panel, so it can be converted for such a scenario.

I priced out conversion kits for about $25. Do I need to spend that much on the kit, or could I just buy an elbow duct and clamp it on? (not the back, but inside somewhere)

Since having lint build up is a fire hazard, you might want to see just what is in that kit before making your own. An elbow that has rough edges to allow the build up of lint (making it past the filter) may not be so cheap if it is intrinsically dangerous.

If you can get a smooth elbow, then go for it. Just make sure that you can attach the elbow system securely to the dryer and the floor. An insecure venting could cause clogging leading to problems as stated above and/or reduce efficenty of the dryer.
