Dry ice and liquid n2 are fun to play with. I've thought of making some, but not exactly easy, and nobody sells that around here. Need a big ass compressor and big ass press.

He doesn't say how much dry ice he used. How much is dry ice per pound typically?

That was pretty lame. A few of those 20 gallon totes in the back of a pickup truck, filled part way with a very soapy mixture (a few bottles of dish soap) and, if desired, some glycerin to make the bubbles last longer. THEN, add in 50 or so pounds of dry ice and go for a ride through the city.

At red lights, the bubbles start filling the bed of the truck. When you take off again, the bubbles start flying out, where they burst giving that little cloud effect. :)

Remember kids, if you're pulled over, yell "OMG! IT'S REACTING! I'VE GOTTA GET IT AWAY FROM THE POPULATION!!" Make sure you have a friend recording everything for later lols on youtube. He'll have to post the video though, since most police don't have that type of a sense of humor.

OHHH! I've got an idea! Get the totes ready with the soapy water. Park near Times Square next year on this particular date. Commence dropping the dry ice into the totes. Run! (Just kidding, of course, since people really won't have a sense of humor about the panic you create.)

these all remind me of the 'pump hydrogen into a container of soapy water, then light the bubble column of death' experiment.

Here we go, screaming metal on dry ice.

I think it was 7th grade biology where I first got to see some dry ice.
I think it was some kind of steak or beef cut that my mom ordered some years later, and it came packed with a few blocks of dry ice. Fun stuff. :)

What sucks about putting it in water is that after a little while, the ice forms a crust of ice over it, which halts the release of sublimating gas, until the pressure buildup cracks the shell. But even then, it's still only a slow bubbling release.

Be sure to use some food coloring in it, too. That'll make it look really sciencey and scary. :D
