Drunk Man Accidentally Kills Self With Gun During Demonstration On Gun Safety

Incidents like this happening throughout history have almost certainly improved the quality of the human gene pool. A posthumous decoration for his action is in order.

I only read the HuffPo article, and it mentioned 3 children, but didn't say that they were his. He could be a candidate for a Darwie.

30 people die every day from drunk driving, but get stupid a gun and its NEWS.

 Dumb fucking comparison. The primary purpose of a motor vehicle is to move people from one place to another. The primary purpose of a gun is to discharge a projectile with enough force to kill someone.

I wish people would stop making this idiotic mistake of comparing guns to motor vehicles. It really only makes you look like a complete moron.

By the way, alcohol impairs your ability to make good decisions... just an FYI.

In all curiousness - why is it idiotic to compare the 2? In this case, we're talking a gun in the hands of someone drunk. Why is it SOOOO wrong to compare it to a wheel in the hands of a drunk person?

In either case, the object isn't to kill someone. People carry for the purpose of protection IF NECESSARY regardless of the situation. Or for sport. Or for hunting. Just like the case with a car, it isn't NORMAL intentions to want to run over that asshole neighbor Darrell. But that doesn't mean someone won't take it upon themselves...

Reminds me of the guy that was teaching his wife gun safety by asking her if it would go off if he pulled the trigger and then putting it to his head to find out after she answered...

Because they aren't the same? Cars are not weapons, they are conveyances. Sure, they can and frequently are deadly but that is not their primary purpose.

Guns are made to discharge bullets at a lethal rate. That is their primary purpose. The reason people carry is irrelevant, that they use them to hunt is irrelevant, that they use them for sport is irrelevant. Guns are made to kill... you can try to tap dance around that all you like but the fact remains that guns, throughout history, have been designed with the primary intent being the quick and easy killing of animals or people.

Anyway, I'm not even sure why I'm arguing with you about this. Mikeford can chime in on why traffic deaths should be more newsworthy than this if he wants. Alcohol and guns don't mix. Alcohol and cars don't mix. And cars and guns are not the same.

Oh, and traffic accident deaths definitely do make the news.

Always assume the gun is loaded, even if you absolutely Know it isn't. Making a mistake can be fatal.
There was a stupid actor a couple of decades ago who thought it'd be funny to play Russian roulette with a gun on set, assuming it'd be safe since they only shot blanks there.

My understanding was that he actually knew it was loaded, albeit with blanks. I guess he didn't understand how the blanks worked in the gun he was playing with.

It's important to properly demonstrate what not to do.
