Drunk-Driving Death Sentence After Crash a First for China
Friday, July 24, 2009

BEIJING ? A court in southwestern China has sentenced a man to death for a drunken-driving accident that killed four people in what's being called a first for the country.

The 30-year-old man was found guilty of endangering public safety and sentenced to death yesterday.

He was reportedly drunk and speeding in the capital of Sichuan province last year when he struck four other cars. Four people were killed and another person was seriously injured. He was also driving without a license.

One newspaper reports that the man begged the judge for a chance to start a new life. He said he would appeal.

China imposes capital punishment more than any other country.

Amnesty International says China put at least 1,718 people to death last year. The actual figure is believed to be higher.

Side 1: YES! That is EXACTLY whats supposed to happen! Now if America would stop being such a damn pansy and do the same thing. Criminals these days get off way too light.

Side 2: Wow, what a horrendous abuse of human rights. China is so evil, and the death penalty does not fit the crime. Thank god we don't live in THAT oppressive hellhole.

/end thread.

I bet if that was a prominent business man or politician, would not have made it in the news as drunk driving.

#2

we need a poll

This is why we need to improve transplant technology. In a Larry Niven world we'd harvest all of his organs and make something good out of his worthless life.

I think this is a good idea for the most part. What if someone had a glass of wine or a beer that night drove home under the BAC limit, could the prosecutor try to say he was drunk and eligible for the death penalty?

Yeah... Has been the biggest week of my life.

Edit: ban was probably well timed

i would tend to agree for repeat drunk driving offenders. but i don't know if its the right thing to do to someone who happened to make one terrible decision.
