While Clark’s BAC was initially recorded at .486 via a portable Breathalyzer, the more precise blood test showed that his BAC was actually significantly higher.
Sounds like he was still going up (body still processing alcohol, blood alcohol content increasing over time) - portables are not known for accuracy, but that's a huge discrepancy.

People die at lower levels than that. How did this guy even make it to the car?

Built up tolerance. Usually it's found in your older, career alcoholics though. This guy is pretty young.

I'm a bit skeptical by the number. My wife has seen *a lot* of tox screenings come through the ED in the last 10 years, nothing remotely close to this high though. She's seen some in the .40-.42 range. Nothing ever higher than that.

Doesn't seem that high. I knew someone who managed to hit .45 and was still semi-conscious. She was only 21.

If this guy quit drinking cold turkey I bet it would cause issues with his body and kill him.

"So, Ichy , she was still semi-concsious? What did you do?"

"I gave her some more drinks"

Took her to the ER actually.

Her tolerance was horrifically high enough that they didn't really do much of anything, just let her sleep it off. Sadly she was at the point where stopping drinking cold turkey was more dangerous than hitting a .46 BAC.

Doesn't seem that high? Some of the highest ever recorded in the US were around .7. .5 and above is a level that is deadly to many people.
