Why is it you need a drug test to work almost anywhere, except school districts, and hospitals?
I would argue that movie theatres are also an exception.

hmmm I havent drug tested for an IT job yet either, I think certain stimulants in your system make you a better IT guy

I guess it doenst really matter in the end, there are enough products out there to cover any trace of drugs in your urine anyway.
I don't think they should test... If your work is bad, you should be fired no matter what the problem is, but if your work is good, what do they care what you do in your free time?

Companies require testing because drug use is illegal and people caught with drugs or under the influence of drugs on company property could possibly get them (the company) in trouble. Sounds stupid I know, but I've seen bonehead of the day awards where say person a gets caught with something illegal and then tries to sue the company for it.

i know this is in response to a picky question, but the point is, as i see it, is, you cant blame bad on a drug. Dr. jeckyll(sp?) and mr. hyde is a fiction. of course drugs inebriate(sp?) you. and physical and maybe mentally affect you, but fellows I am not a "good" sober guy and a "bad" inebriated(sp?) fellow. The moral "high" ground(couln't help myself, pun) is not held by the antidrug group, as much as they self-rightously wish. sorry but look at mark 7:7 "howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrine the commandments of men". .
HOWEVER, on the other hand drugs are DANGEROUS, each in its own way. this does not preclude their use, but dont be a fool either.

There is certain tea that one can drink which supposedly flushes all traces of drugs from your body.

Oh no someone's using Bible quotes to back up drug use as being good. Well at least this helps my point that christians all seem like they're on crack or something.
Drugs are a bad thing. They kill brain cells. Killing brain cells makes you stupider. You may say we don't use most of our brain anyway, but drugs kill active brain cells first. And damage to the nervous system is irrepairable. I don't like having anything to do with people who use drugs, and I think anything that happens to people that do is something that the deserve, including not getting a job.

Not all drugs are bad. Drugs which cause you to act in ways which could be dangerous to yourself of others are bad, and that includes alcohol, but they don't test for that do, they? If some graphic designer trips on LSD over the weekend, it will probably only enhance his performance the next Monday.
There are drugs which are too powerful for damn near anyone to handle responsibly (heroin, crack, etc). But drugs like shrooms, LSD, or even a little pot are not going to hurt anyone's work performance. What they might do to your long-term health is another story, or course.
As for liability, sure that could be a problem. But wouldn't it be smarter and probably cheaper to just pay the cops to have a K9 unit sniff around the office once a month? Make employees sign a contract stating they can be searched for possesion without warning while on company property. But it is not a company's buisness to try to police their employees while they are not at work.

ahh and he quotes john lennon. hey braincell guy. use one of your brain cells to understand that the bible quotes dont proclaim drugs as good. if you read the book you would find jesus telling people not to call him good because only God is good. but for anyone out there who has "ears to hear" , you cannot blame bad or immoral behavior on being inebriated on something. drugs in and of themselves are not bad. sorry, this is truth. Plain and simple.companies test for drugs for an insurance rate drop.
It depends if you are legally prescribed narcotics,in which case they cannot discriminate if you are not under the influence during work or if it does not impede your work quality and or safety.
I am and have been on Methadone on and off for about 7yrs and have never been turned down for a job because of it. Even though most companies don't test for Methadone because it puts them in a position of being the recipient of a potential discrimination lawsuit.
