DRUG TESTING

Political cronies like legislation that puts public money in their corporate pocket. Look up the word 'boondoggle". Like the war on drugs to date, for every hundred dollars of input, pennies back in benefits.

What does a friend sharing the pot have to do with it? The fact that I didnt buy it doesnt matter. I was just asking what people opinion on the topic was. Different from mine or not.. If i choose to smoke pot or smoke crack and i have to be drug tested and i fail knowing my kids will suffer if i choose to do those things then i should make better decisions as a parent.. in MY opinion. What difference does it make if its my friends herioin or crack?

I quite mistakenly thought you were basing denying people assistance for drug use was rooted in financial reasoning. The idea of denying someone's children care and assistance based on what the parent had done is quite foreign to me. Someone would have to be a despicable rotten piece of shit to do that.

Hasn't it been proven that by and large instituting Drug Testing in this way is a failure and a huge waste of money?

As others have said, its something that sounds good but at its best ends up being a waste of even more resources. That money would be better spent on positive drug rehabilitation programs, or even just employing more social workers (who by the way, are actually one of the prime ways that they detect drug problems and other issues that drug tests aren't going to catch). Legitimate studies seem to indicate people on welfare programs are actually less likely to be drug users than the normal population (the people saying if they can afford drugs were partially right, just in the opposite direction, if you can't afford food, you probably can't afford drugs much).

Drug testing is quite limited in that unless you basically did the drugs within a quite recent timeframe, the only thing it will really catch is marijuana. Your chances of catching alcohol and harder drugs are pretty slim. There's flaws in drug testing itself, and by that I mean how valid and how reliable it actually is.

There's also the fact that drug addicts are exactly the people who need these programs. Literally that's one of the things they were specifically created to help with. It also would mean denying social benefits for the kids of drug users.

Oh, and don't forget how the pharmaceutical companies created a ton of drug addicts by pushing synthetic opioids that ended up getting people addicted. And there's plenty of people that got hooked on pain meds because of legitimate injuries. You're basically wanting to light these people on fire after kicking them while they're down.

There's that whole 4th Amendment problem that keeps coming up with this type of thing too.

Why stop at drug testing? Why not block benefits if people buy lottery tickets? Cigarettes? Porn? Alcohol? Abortions? Birth Control? Junk food?

Hey, I bet if we dig deep enough we can find a reason to deny benefits to everyone, so the hungry can starve and the sick can rot in the street.

Thanks for posting OP, you fucking piece of shit. I'm glad your children benefitted from a social program you would deny to everyone else's children.

Some states actually were trying to do that, and I think they even wanted their purchases regularly audited.

Stupid policy that costs more money then it will ever save, because in objective observable reality, most poor people don’t use the drugs tested for.

No, I don't think they should. If they decide to, then they should also do it for Social Security recipients as well.

Why? Social Security is "pre-paid" by the majority of those collecting it.
Everyone who has a driver's license though, maybe THEY should all be tested at least annually...or monthly.

We all pay into the system to get unemployment and welfare too. I don't view Social Security as any different. They're all group insurance plans in case you lose your job or fail to save enough for retirement. If you're going to test one group, test them all. In reality they shouldn't test any of them, but for some reason people on unemployment and welfare are viewed as freeloaders so the thinking indicates that it's okay to treat them like criminals.

If the point of this Drug Testing is to deny benefits, No. If the point is to determine how benefits are delivered to you(ie- Food/direct pay of Rent and Utilities), Yea, sure. Doesn't save any money either way though.

It's a waste of time and money expect, of course, for the GOP politician's sister/brother in law who owns the lab that will get the contract for the testing...

Same shit, different DERP

Drugs. That just sugggests that the person failing the test is having a worse time at life than you are right now, being as poor as you AND battling an addiction.
Why is that human instinct? To kick the guy below us?

Edit : If the drug test is only used to recommend treatment to said individual that would be something else...

,,,or to just those looking for Social Assistance. We're talking about ILLEGAL Drugs, everyone should be tested Monthly!!!!!
It would be to disheartening to learn that most of those really stupid people we know aren't under the influence of anything; they are just dumb.

We're talking about ILLEGAL drugs, nimrod.. perhaps drugs has compromised your thinking ability.
The legality of most drugs is fairly arbitrary. Why is alcohol legal and marijuana not? Why is tobacco legal? There are a lot of people who use marijuana to deal with pain, even though it's illegal. Lots of folks have chronic pain and used opioids, but those are now very difficult to get, so they turn to buying them illegally or using substitutes like opium or heroin.

Illegal drug use doesn't imply that someone is scum or immoral - a lot of folks are stuck with the decision of suffering or breaking an arbitrary law and I don't blame them for choosing not to suffer. I've dealt with chronic pain and it's not a great way to live. Fortunately I never felt the desire to take illegal drugs and I've had the situation rectified, but that doesn't happen for everyone.

So if I'm flying high on legal opiates, that is fine but if I am smoking pot then that is not OK?

Fentanyl is a legal drug, it's about 2000-5000% stronger than PURE heroin but that is OK? Cuz the likes of O'Reilley has doctor friends to score him some legally?

You are making very little sense.

You mean like taking legal opiates?

And then the question becomes, what if a legal drug like Tramadol was scored illegally? It's the number one choice for opiates in London now. Is that fine since it's a legal drug (actually, heroin and cocaine are also legal drugs, I can get any amount for test subjects if I request it and they are used in some treatments).

If staying drug free is one of the conditions for receiving this benefit then test away. I've had to be subject to random drug screenings to hold jobs so why shouldn't a welfare recipient have to do the same to retain their benefits?

Because it serves no purpose?
