If you saw my previous thread, you know I drove an S60R last week on friday. Today, I went to an awesome local pizza place for lunch known as Cio's pizza.
Anyway, after I ate I dropped my friend off and on my way home stopped by at the Subaru dealership. I went in, introduced myself and started talking. The salesman got keys so I could sit inside the STi then we went back to his desk. I gave him my license and he went back to get keys only to find out you have to be 18... This was a dissapointment... oh well, the show goes on!
Right across the street is the Audi and Porsche dealership so I stopped by there. I told him I wanted something fun with a manual transmission. First he took me by the manual A4's including the 3.0L. Next we went to the TT's, they didn't have many manuals in those... He mentioned the S4 earlier and now again so I said, yeah, let's go take a look at that car. We start talking and then he says "Want to take it for a spin? It'll beat the S60R's no doubt!"
We go back inside, grab the keys and I wait outside the front door. He brings it up and starts taking off the interior coverings, this car had just over a mile on it! I get situated in the driver's seat as he removes more of the plastic coverings.. The first thing is notice is that shifting into first gear was VERY DAMN smoothly everytime! I drove it around, some twisty city roads and some freeway driving. When we got back to the dealership I told him that while it was an excellent car with lots of torque, but I wanted something smaller, possibly a 2 seater, and looks more like a sports car. We start talking about the Boxter's and I ask if he has any 911's. He had a couple new ones as well as a 99 and an 02. I take a look at them and show interest in the 02. He tells me to wait right there and gets the keys.
I sit down inside that car and DAMN! This actually feels like a sports car and not some boy-racer attitude car like the STi/S2000/etc.
I take it out and tell him I want to drive this within the city, not so much the freeway. There were many nice twisty roads we took it on as well as long wide open roads. This car truly felt like how a sports car should in terms of ride height, torque, stiff suspension, etc. I'll be honest, with all the power and torque available, I did NOT even get close to the redline! This thing had tons of power at any RPM range I put it at!
Anyway, to sum it up, my view on the STi and cars like it are changing. I can see why even though an STi may outperform cars more expensive than it, it just doesn't feel the same! One 993 911 owner I know always calls them riced cars, possibly because of the boy-racer attitude they portray. I didn't like the Audi as much because of it's size, but it's still definitely a nice car!
