Dropped water on my Nomad IIc, help!

First, sorry if this is the wrong forum for this. Second, there is my problem:

I recently got water on my Nomad IIc mp3 player, (Product Link) and it got pretty wet!

I tried to on it after I let it dry overnight and the LED backlight goes on but the menu does not display! So it is getting power but just not functioning. I don't want to open it up yet because I am pretty sure I wont know what I am doing.

Any information or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

(BTW: Don't suggest getting a RMA or warranty, it is way past its warranty time. I checked Creative's support page and they said to contact them for repairs / replacments but they will charge you if the warranty is gone, and it is 🙁)

The good news is that if it is distilled water that you exposed it to, there theoretically shouldnt be any long term harmful side-effects.

The bad news is that it probably wasnt distilled water that you dropped it in. If there were ionized particles in the water, it could have caused a short in your device.

Have you tried swapping out the batteries? It could be as simple as that. If after a couple days it does not work, you might want to try banging it against something hard (don't break your device though). If any particles that were in the water are still in your device (no, I doubt you would be able to open it up and see them), it might cause them to dislodge from whatever they were stuck to. Don't get your hopes up, but good luck.

Tried new batteries, no luck 🙁

I will try that banging thing though 🙂

Thanks

if you do manage to open it up, try using a compressed air can to clear out some of those particles that you may not be able to see...
good luck,

Ok, will try this, thanks.

And I did try the banging method but it still does the same thing 🙁

Sorry that didnt help, my guess is that some component shorted in your device. Try anything you can think of, but if the compressor thing doesnt work, it might be time to "upgrade"

Even if it wasn't distilled water, the chances of the water being dirty enough or containing enough mineral that it left enough residue behind to cause a short is very unlikely (unless it was a coke or something, then i would understand).

Sounds like you didn't wait for it to completely dried... overnight is how long? 8-12 hrs, that probably wasn't long enough for water to completely dry up in a contained environment like the casing of a Nomad. Inwhich case you did shorted out the device... and if you did, you're pretty much screwed. You should have waited 48 hours, that might have saved it.

4dm was referring to the fact that distilled water doesn't conduct electricity. Tap water, or any water with ions in it (salt, chlorine, etc) will be conductive.
