It sits on the 3 frame, Mazda didn't change the springs and many have issues with it bottoming out once you have more than 3-4 people back there.

THUS, coilovers makes sense.

Yea but I thought it was longer and taller than a 3, but just a 3 on a longer wheelbase with more headroom. They fixed the underspecced rear shocks with the 2nd gen iirc.
