To be honest, and most will agree here, you'd be better off keeping your current system and upgrading your GPU.
A 3.3Ghz P4 should be more than adequate, and the gains you'd see in moving to an AMD system probably wouldn't justify the cost.

That's key right there. You will surely get recommendations and thumbs up for going to an A64 system. Why? Because A64 is awesome. But nothing beats a new GPU for gaming. Sell the 9800Pro to help finance your purchase. That 6800GT near $300 dollar mark looks like a good upgrade if you net $100 for the 9800Pro.

That's key right there. This forums is full of A64 proponents who are blinded by CPU speed. A64 is awesome. But nothing beats a new GPU for gaming. Sell the 9800Pro to help finance your purchase.

Well the bad part is that I just got the 9800pro, had a 9600.
It just is not the huge dif that I expected i guess. So I thought it was the system.
So basically just go for the 6800.

Yeah, a 6800GT would give you a really nice boost. Plus most can OC to Ultra spec with no problems.
eVGA, BFG are some of the best IMO.

My evga barely misses ultra speeds. 401 core, 1080 mem.

As much as I like the Athlon64, I have to agree, at the moment your best upgrade is the video card. X800pro or 6800GT. I have both and they are very comparable. The 6800GT is slightly faster, but I had to try many versions of drivers to get the 6800GT to even work.

how about this:

I'd go for a 6800GT rather than a plain 6800. A plain 6800 will still be a bit better than the 9800pro, but not as much as a 68000GT.

Go for a cheaper 6800 if you want to gamble on softmodding and don't mind lacking some memory bandwidth. Else, if gambling isn't your style, the X800XL or the 6800GT are sure to please. X800XL prices for AGP aren't as hot as the PCI-e prices, though.
