Drop out, enroll, transfer?

So lets say you've got a sh!tty GPA in college, under a 2.5 or something. You've racked up a bunch of credits but you don't know what you want to do. What's to stop you from dropping out and re-enrolling at another school, with a fresh start?

I always hear about basketball players who first attend school, don't do well enough, leave, enroll at a community college for a semester or two and get their grades up, and then transfer to a different school. And it happens often.

Is this because they can ball? Or is that a possible route for anyone out there who isn't doing well?

Haven't you seen my engineering threads? Don't you know I'm going to piss my way through the technical stuff and go into engineering sales?

Besides, I go to a brand name school. That should at least get me some interviews, so it would not be wise to go else where.

I would say that's a route for all students, but there are some restrictions. You have to have a plan, a school which you want to enroll in, and know the exact requirements. Some schools require that regardless of where you took some of the core courses, they will consider their grades when deciding whether to let you into upper level or not. Those grades don't get counted into the GPA though.

No I haven't had the pleasure of reading what great insight lies in thoes gems.
After your alcohol/drug thread I'll be sure to keep an eye open for them. They may provide zanejohnson entertainment value, though I won't keep my hopes up.

Just make sure you leave out your GPA when piecing together your resume. When going for a non-technical job you can usually bullshit your way into some sort of jo and I can see you can be quite the picasso of the bullshit.

Why not just go for a business degree if you don't want to go into engineering?

Grades follow you for 10 years. You dropout, you can only go down in terms of what schools you can get into. It takes a lot get back into a decent school if you screwup the first time. Not so much for basketball players, because they and all athletes are expected to do shitty at school. Most arent there for an education they are there to help the school do better in sports.

For what it's worth, I transferred with poor grades by first doing a "part-time" semester at the new school, which meant 3 classes instead of 4, and aced them. After that, they accepted me fulltime right away.

When you say you've racked up a bunch of credits, what do you mean? As in, have you been there less than 2 years? If so, just change into a major you enjoy more, or start taking classes in other areas to see what you'd like to do. In the end, you need to study whatever it is that you enjoy.

Uh... nothing. Even if you transfer your credits, they probably won't count toward your GPA at the new school.
