crappy? wtf? if ur talking about those pos edtv low end plasmas being aimed at the less tech savy... well that doesn't have much to do with real hdtv which has very decent resolution:p 1080i or p on a screen that large would be quite stunning i'm sure, hardly low resolution.

Im guessing that thing is going for around 40 grand. Why not get a high quality projector for half that?

It's a 1080p native panel, 1920 x 1080.

You can get a 1080p projector for about $30k, plus another $5k or so for a silverstar screen.

Still cheaper than this plasma and has the ability to go wayy past 100 inches

not to mention a projector isn't so useful for most applications... like working in daylight;)

nice tv, amx. what kind of light do you have behind your tv? I've been looking at doing something like that. I was going to get some rope light and zip tie it behind mine.

i believe that light is actually coming from the TV. I have heard about this tv, it changes the ambient lighting to what is on the tv screen. however in all of those pics the light seems the same color.

whoever says that TV quality looks crappy on the current TV's in HD is an idiot and has not even viewed it yet. Of course original TV programs in SD are going to look crappy on a big screen tv if they already look crappy on a small TV. the TV's now a days are so good that you can actually realize how crappy SD looks.

my 50" samsung DLP is awesome. normal comcast cable looks pretty crappy, but its tolerable by all means. the HD is incredible on it, as is xbox games and dvds.

but that 102" puts my 50" to shame :(

Too bad all the plasma diplays I've ever seen look like crap(compared to DLPs). Now if they made a 102" DLP, THAT would be sweet

WEll go look at the plasma i have. If you think plasmas look crap, you will never be happy. DLP tvs are no way better then plasmas or lcds. Good flatpanels will not distrot the SD signal. My SD quality is great, ill put up some SD pictures as soon as i get some time. Yea the ambient light i have fixed while tv viewing to a tint of yellow. Sometimes it gettings annoying during movies. If you do not have an ambient light, you should put one behind your plasma, this is because plasmas are too bright and having a back ambient light will sooth your eyes from high contrast and improve your viewing experiance. You can put small spotlights poiting up. remmeber it doesnt have to be too bright.

A long LONG time. If you can wear out a modern, reasonably high quality plasma or LCD (wear out by use, not by stupidity), you're seriously watching way WAY too much TV.

WARNING: Wildly unpopular facts ahead. Skip if you're uncomfortable.

CURRENT generation top tier plasmas have a 60,000 hour halflife. The halflife is the time it takes to reach 1/2 brightness. At 1/2 brightness, most of these plasmas will still be much brighter than your typical tube TV. For reference, if you watch 10 hours of TV a day, 7 days a week, every single week of the year, it would take over 16 years to reach half brightness on a plasma. There is no replaceable bulb.

It's also much MUCH more difficult to burn in a plasma these days. Burn in is tied to plasma halflife, so these new 60k hour panels are much better than the older 10, 15, 30k hour panels. This being said, it still is possible to experience burn in if you're seriously almost criminally stupid.

Current LCD's last between 50k to 60k hours. They're EXTREMELY hard to burn in, though this can happen as well. The brightness drop-off IS FASTER on an LCD than a Plasma, even with the latest and greatest long life CCFL's (NEC makes some of the best on the market).

Backlighting is, in theory, replaceable on some LCD's. However, doing this is more expensive than simply buying a new LCD TV, so no one does it.
