Yeah, right.

6200 shared memory versus 6800 NU 128 MB.

Sony versus Asus, enough said.

Why the Sony is supposed to be more expensive is bejond me. Maybe to cover for all the overheated returns :)

I've read some horror stories about folks with dead Sony laptops attempting to get repairs. How is Asus' reliability and support?

Well..I was refering to the thinnest laptop with the largest/nicest screen size. But I agree that Sony customer service and build quality is nothing compared to Asus.

I was actually looking at the FS series b/c its thin and has a wide 15 and with MIR and discounts...can be had for about $1300 (550) whereas the Asus is pricey at over $2K. The only thing really holding me back was the low res LCD of the sony and the crappy onboard graphics.

Wish I could afford an Asus.

Sony always manages to squeeze the most tech junk into the smallest thinnest lightest package.

The result is noise, overheating and general lack of reliability.

I'm glad you had one bad experience and decided to "ban" Sony. The rest of the world generally has no major issues with Sony.
That said, I wouldn't buy a Sony for constant usage out & about. There are better built brands, but Sony offers bells, whistles, and generally aesthetically pleasing designs with sufficient hardware; a lot of people like that.
Not people like us ATers, but you know, normal people ;)

Uh, our whole company has banned Sony for the same reason and we are now Powerbook and Thinkpad snobs. And yes before that we had quite a few of Sonys (note "had").

They also receive quite a bit of FlaK on -um- about every forum I visit.

My ban on them for for media nonsense, BTW, I wouldn't care too much about the laptops.
