Drones

v-600

Who's got one, who wants one, what do people think of them?

I just bought a DJ Phantom from a friend (who never really used it). Its cool, but I have the feeling the novelty will wear off quickly and it will end up on Ebay or similar.

which model did you get? 1,2, or the latest 3?

i would use it for vacation or wedding videos. flying around the hood will get boring real quick

I'm thinking I want to do some videoing of archery/mountain biking. Otherwise just flying for fun.

Crash it into somebody or something can result in a financial disaster. Have a care where you fly it. V-600's proposed usage sounds safe enough.

Flying a quadcopter is fun, but what is really fun is flying first-person view (FPV) and then joining up in group races. FPV by itself is pretty fun as-is but when you are with a half-dozen or more other people flying virtually through a forest at 30mph or more dodging trees and each other, it's absolutely amazing.

Something like this:

...except with more people. I fly with my co-workers at lunch at work in a little forest in the back and it feels like I'm a kid again. Even when we crash (and we crash a lot), everyone walks away smiling. It's just such an awesome sensation to fly over and around trees... it's like you are really flying.

You could get a set of Quantum goggles from Hobbyking and modify a Phantom to fly FPV for less than $100 (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__53706__Quanum_DIY_FPV_Goggle_Set_with_Monitor_KIT_.html) and then this Video RX/TX set http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...Sony_CCD_and_Circular_Polarized_Antennas.html. Then buy a couple dozen props and put it in rate mode and pretend like you are 10 years old and you were granted your wish to fly like a bird.

Give it a year or two, will be people probably flying AI ones patrolling their private property with IR and a gun as security systems and hunting a deer or something on the side during hunting season you just go and pick up.

Of course when you can hack those things will really go weird.

Among other concerns lately.

What prompted the change? I've got the gimballed 2.

alot... the upgrades, i got a pretty penny for my P2, and I didnt have a ton of extras like FPV or iosd or anything.....

Sold it for 650 + shipping....

I kept my GP Hero 3 BE too

The Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) provides liability insurance for all pilots provided you follow the rules for safe flying. It's $58 for the year from January 1st to December 31st, so you'd be stupid not to.

Drones are a great gateway into the RC hobby as long as you're not stupid with them.

I didn't wanted to buy a drone until I saw .... Lily camera .... it's basically a drone with camera that is self controlled and follows you and takes pics and videos of you. It's pretty damn cool.
Cost 540$ with shipping and it has a 20 minutes autonomy.

$540 for a pre-order. $1080 ($1 for every pixel in the camera!) if you don't pre-order.

Also, that thing is gonna be buggy as hell - have you watched the "real" preview video? The quad was barely controllable with the actual radio, much less by itself. Maybe better software can fix it, but who knows.

I have a DJI Phantom II Vision+ (with the upgrades to V3) and a parrot AR 2.0.

Fun stuff - but I don't think I'll be upgrading anytime soon, what I have does what I need it to do
