this might be a dumb question, but what was the point of releasing this device if it is not 4G? People are still buying 3G phones?

Uh, take a look at the 4G coverage map. If you don't live in one of those green dots, it doesn't make much sense to get a 4G phone right now. Clearly, in 2 years, when the contract comes up on the Dx2, I'd wager Verizon's entire smart phone catalog will be 4G.

Heck, Verizon just said recently they wanted to phase as their 3G entirely by 2013. Hopefully, this means LTE will have a very fast expansion and ramp up. I think they've deployed more in the past month than Sprint did in the past year with Wimax.

well there is still a long way until the 4G network will be even half of the 3G surface. So i think there is still worth the effort of buying such a device

Most people will have 4g by the time the contract is over. Verizon says by 2013 they will have 2/3 of the country covered by LTE.

and in 2 years ill consider getting a 4g device. right now it makes no sense to get one because of where i live, and TBH i doubt ill have 4g in 2013 unless i move
