Huzzah!
just got my X... I've never had 3G until now... when I activated and started playing with it, it was showing 1X and a weak signal.. I was still able to sign into gmail and facebook and it even got my contacts. I called tech support and they did a full reset - when that came up, it showed 3G for the first time and 3 bars. Soon after I hung up, it went back to 1X. I powered it off normally and back on, showed 3G for a few secs, then back to 1X. Browser isn't loading jack. Wifi is not on - nor do I want it to be at this point. What's the deal here?
EDIT>> tech support has me downloading the system updates as we speak - it's staying on 3G for now... btw, my 100% battery is now at 50% after just over 1hr.
^ not fixed after system updates... even had me zero-out my old phone to make sure it wasn't a conflict. I tried *228 to activate again and while it shows the activate screen it's not saying anything nor can I hit option 1 (or 2 to update roaming). He has to do more research on this and get back to me...
wifi and regular phone calls are working though... it's just a 3G issue.
can anyone tell me what their signal strength is under About Phone? Mine is hovering between -96dBm and -99dBM with 0 asu.
BTW, my battery is now down to 20% and the device has been very warm the whole time.
^unusedy Ram is wasted ram in Linux
but I never heard about the choppyness issue
Did you have a VZW phone before this? Did it have an okay signal?
yes, it was always fine and never got dropped.
right now it appears 3G is staying on when I'm out and about, including just outside in the driveway... it seems there's just dead spots inside the house for 3G. Where I am now is 3 feet away from the window and it's going between 1X and 3G. If I sit 1 foot away from the window, it will stay 3G for the most part. I turned off my wireless on this PC in case it interfered and it didn't help. Battery has dropped 30% in an hour and the manager says it's 90% from the display (even with low brightness set). Most of this drop was outside using 3G.
The other thing, it's really hot even while in 3G while on the road (my wife was browsing)... she deals with blackberries all day and she said this is definitely not normal heat. I think I'm going to hit the VZW store and see what they have to say.
The more ram free the less the kernel has to kick in to kill stuff at the last possible second when there is a sudden demand. I'm already noticing much snappier response, esp with large media, from the 100mb or so of ram freed up from crap that auto launches as soon a it's killed.
^ ah thats cool, I haven't used my phone to watch videos yet, When I am in the Plane next month to Colorado ill load it up
, I honestly dont even know what formats the phone plays lol
There's a 100MB of bloatware on that phone? Good grief, Moto, did you flush your brains down the toilet? You hit one out of the park with the Droid 1, and now you're acting like the retard at the Special Olympics swinging at the T-Ball stand.
