Droid screen turns off when sliding open.

My wife's Droid (Droid 1) seems to have developed an annoying intermittent problem. When sliding the screen open, the screen seems to completely shut off and is unresponsive. Sometimes you press on the edge of it just right or wiggle it a little bit and it comes on fine, or you can close it and it works without problem. The only catch is that my wife refuses to use the onscreen keyboard (hence having a Droid anyway).

Anyone run into this before?

I've tried all the "software" ideas I could think of... power off and on, pull the battery, etc.

Sounds like warranty time. And I believe she could be getting an Incredible or Droid 2 as a replacement :D

Good luck. When I changed phones to the Droid from the Devour at Costco, the first Droid out of lockup had a similar problem. Possibly issue with the proximity sensor. Definitely check with Moto and good luck.

Also...hows that working on Page Plus? Was it a VZW phone originally? What are data costs like? I am intrigued by that idea...

Yeah, I'm thinking it's a proximity sensor connection issue, otherwise I'd think the screen would have more problems than it does.

As far as PagePlus, well yeah it was a VZW phone - all Moto Droids are VZW phones. :p

Data costs are negligible given my wife doesn't use data. Mobile data is turned off unless she needs to download a MMS picture, at which point it needs to be turned on. She just uses it for talk and text.

I'm using PP on an Incredible, pretty happy with it so far...

Verizon's network access for dirt cheap.

I think you should go with plan B, find another phone for her, send off the Droid to Moto, and sell me the refurbished unit they send back to you :)

I'm going to kill my family plan and put the kids on PP, and am looking for a couple of Droids...
