Droid Bionic & Unlimited $30 Data

I upgraded my original Droid to a Bionic on Friday. Received the new phone yesterday, set it up, and now I am enjoying some dual core 4G LTE action. I wasn't sure I'd be able to do it, but it let me keep my old unlimited data $30 plan.

Haven't really used the phone enough to give a real review, but it is a night and day difference from my old phone. Just thought it was worth reporting that you can indeed keep the unlimited $30 data plan while upgrading to a 4G LTE device on Verizon, at least currently.

A friend of mine is in the process of upgrading as well, and they told him the same thing. As long as you keep your contract going and don't change anything, you should be able to keep the old plan.

One of the lines on my account just upped to the Bionic from the OG Droid. No added fees, and unlimited data as well.

my coworker just switched from AT&T to Verizon and got the Bionic. he is stuck w/the 2Gb for $30, but we were testing out the speeds and it's crazy how fast LTE is. that thing was getting like 20-25mb/sec.

at home i'm on 3mb dsl lol.

Verizon has stated that anyone who previously had the Unlimited Data plan is grandfathered in and can keep it. My hunch, however, is that it's only a matter of time before they do away with that policy. With 4G speeds and hardware improvements on the smartphones, Verizon will want to suck as much money as possible out of the customers that spend a lot of time streaming videos and downloading other large files with their phones.

att lte will be available many places soon and it is supposed to be twice as fast as verizons, keep that in mind before signing a 2 year verizon contract

Boy Genius Reports delivering around 12 Mbps downstream and 2 Mbps upstream on AT&T LTE that went live in Chicago.

I highly doubt AT&T can pull 50 Mbps and be twice as fast as Verizon. Don't see it happening.

What's messed up is they call one thing a transfer of liability. My mother and I both had seperate accounts through Verizon for the past maybe 6yrs? We combined on a family plan a yr or two ago.. and if we go back to our separate plan one of us subject to the new bs rates.

Add $30 for tethering which remains unlimited with your data plan and you dont even need a home WIFI connection. LTE is truely WIFI anywhere.

My hunch is whenever an LTE iPhone hits unlimited goes away.

With the Bionic (and some other devices), you don't even need to add tethering. They can be used as a WiFi hotspot for X number of devices (in the case of the Bionic, 5 devices can connect to it...enough for many homes).

It's not powerful enough for a home. It will cover a room, but not much more than that. You would need to share the connection (through a repeater, bridge, or desktop/laptop shared out to a switch to the other systems).
