Droid 2: Blur-less. AOSP. Moto Kernel.

The ROM is now built of a true clean AOSP generic build with all D2 drivers added instead of being built of the D2 SDK which is about the same but some people were questioning how AOSP this was. Yes it still has the moto kernel, no we can not overclock. We may at some point...keep reading through the changes!

Are the Droid 2 and Droid X getting close to being viable purchases? Possibly, but just in time to get their SoCs handed to them by next gen hardware at the end of the year.

So this is just one of the many Nandroid backups where people strip out stuff right? I guess this is good, but not to be a downer or anything, this is still about the same as where we were. It'd be nice to bring in overclock or something soon though

I think most people have already given up about breaking the bootloader though.

Not sure how the simple exclusion of blur makes the droid x more of a option than out already is.I use launcher pro and it blazes. Blur is just a skin

Not quite. The Blur files run constantly regardless of whether you installed LP or ADW. Sure, the phones have enough RAM/storage/CPU power to handle both, but its still a waste.

I don't like the D2 or Dx because you're forced into it and given very few options to change and customize it. And after experiencing the total freedom of source builds on my D1, losing that freedom will be a major shock.

Not quite. The Blur files run constantly regardless of whether you installed LP or ADW. Sure, the phones have enough RAM/storage/CPU power to handle both, but its still a waste.

I don't like the D2 or Dx because you're forced into it and given very few options to change and customize it. And after experiencing the total freedom of source builds on my D1, losing that freedom will be a major shock.

I was worried about the "loss of freedom" when I went from my Droid 1 to the Droid X, but I think there are quite a few options out now that have remedied this for me and the phone is a joy to use. My headphone jack died on my original DX and I got a replacement yesterday that had the Verizon 2.2 update already installed. Within 20 minuted, I was re-rooted and themed with most of the bloatware/apps out of site.

Granted it's not as open as the original Droid is (and how many phones out there are now) but you couldn't pay me to go back to a Droid 1 either.

I dunno. I have Rom Manager and am currently running custom themes. There are also many Roms available already. A locked bootloader isn't the end of the world. Everything else is still possible.

No custom kernels yet, so no massive battery life boosts and overclocking. Just yet.

Either way, there's other options, I don't have to support Moto and Verizon's anti-consumer policies. There are still other phones on other carriers that offer more consumer friendly devices.

Even the bugged NAND lock function on the G2 has already been broken.
