Hey guys, ok I have somewhat of a difficult question.
I am trying to setup a small online store for distributing music digitally (like itunes), and I am looking for a file format to use which:

-people can play in any media player on any platform ( winamp, wmp, itunes etc)
(without any plugins!)
-has some sort of protection against copying or modifying. This is NOT to say that people cant make their own cds out of it or do what they want with them, I am just trying to stop these songs from starting to float around the internt for free, which would kind of kill the business.

I have looked into mp4 already but it looks like it needs extra software to play in windows... mp3 looks like the best solution but I am just not sure how to protect the songs. I do not own the rights to these songs either, I am just going to develop the online distribution system for them and so I must demonstrate some measure of security to the publisher.

Thanks alot!
