You still need insurance company to come out with their own claim adjuster most likely. They might also appoint you to their authorized repair shop, although you are free to go anywhere you want but they'll mail you a claim check based on their estimate, unless additional parts are required.

If you guys are both over 25 then maybe let her policy cover this accident. She's a woman and the increase in her premium will be lower than yours.
Pontiac Vibes are the same as Toyota Matrix, based on a Corolla platform.

If you don't mind American, you can consider the Pontiac G6 or the Ford Fusion. Both are slightly larger vehicles though, but might give you a better feeling of security.

Edit: unless there's frame damage that renders the vehicle unsafe to operate, insurance companies most likely won't bulge and consider it totalled.

My mom's had work done out there before and they usually get away with sending detailed pictures and estimates to the insurance agents because they have a good rep. We'll see though, I wouldn't mind taking it elsewhere. The frame didnt look bent, the drivers side bend some good metal and screwed up some intake connections and the fuse box.

We don't mind American, except for the HHR that we got as a rental.

There must be different criteria of calculating a totaled vehicle. Last time we had a hit-and-run on our Camry and the repair bill was way higher than the blue book value of the car, but our insurance company insisted on repairing it, giving that excuse about frame damage.

I've found that the insurance adjusters actually estimate more for damage than the local shops/garages. If your guy said 11K, chances are the insurance company might go way higher.

I know for a fact that Geico will only cover 49% or less damage, relative to the blue-book value (including overall condition/wear of car.) At 51%, it's a total loss. They don't care if you paid $50k, if the blue book value is $10k and you have $5001 dollars damage on that $50k car, it's totalled.

i have a Nissan Versa, and it's rated fuel economy is 36 / 46 MPG,

it's a really nice car IMO, the base model is like 15k Canadian, but they are brand new to north america, but they are released as a luxury car in Japan, and the pacific rim as the Nissan Tiida...

it looks similar to the Pontiac Vibe, and the Toyota Matrix, but is a little shorter.

in the few months that i've owned my 07 Versa, there is Very Very little that i can find wrong with it, i'm a Tall Guy, about 6'3'' and i can Comfortably sit in the back seat. with the front seat fully to the rear... not to mention that in the upgraded version of the Versa, it's just soooo comfy

anyhoo, sorry to hear about the falling asleep at the wheel, i'm a fairly new driver, and the only time i've ever gotten tired while driving, was when i was alone, and driving on a very isolated road... i just kept going till i hit the first spot i could pull over *mountain roads, very small shoulders, and alot of blind turns, had to keep going* and then just had a quick little power nap, so i could carry on, of course, when i answered the phone all groggy, they weren't too impressed that i was sleeping... would have been much less impressed if i got in an accident though, so it's all good

Maybe you don't understand how easy it is to fall asleep at the wheel? I've been driving in broad daylight, felt a bit drowsy but nothing serious, then blinked, opened my eyes a moment later and felt really disorientated, like didn't know where i was for a second until i got my bearings.. Must have fallen asleep for a split second, scary, but i really didnt feel like i was going to fall asleep... It comes on really fast...

I fell asleep at the wheel once, actually only a couple months ago. I was going back and forth between Houston and San Antonio several times a month for work, heading out to San Antonio, about five miles from Buc-ee's (anyone whose made the drive knows what I'm talking about), and I had been really tired for the past fifty miles or so.

Short story even shorter, the warning track woke me up, at which point I stopped at Buc-ee's and pounded a couple cups of joe.

The driver probably did this because he's towed several vehicles with the same case but no survivors. Although it was the most tactful thing to do I wouldn't bother the tow company over it. Driving to the point where you fall asleep at the wheel is not the most smartest thing to do.

And if I'd done something like that in a similar situation, I'd fully be expecting my fiancee to be yelling the same thing. I doubt she'll fall asleep in the car with you again.
Driving always made me really nervous, to the point that my parents had to just about force me to take lessons and get a license after I turned 18. Years later, I still don't like driving, in part because I never know if the other drivers out there are fully awake or sober.

Well, sleepy folks and drunk folks behave just as badly behind the wheel, so it's not like their irritatation is unfounded. But, you are right, most people really have no idea how much/little fatigue it takes to be dangerous.
