Driving under the influence of anything is irresponsible!

that said, i'm a better driver when under the influence of pot. *shrug*

drinking and driving is terrible... having a few and driving is one thing, but you have to know when to draw the line. even with a few beers in me, i'll a) listen to my tunes louder or b) drive faster. not good

toke me up and i will drive clear across this world and simultaneously give driver's ed instructions.

Shens. People say that about driving when they're drunk also.

All these people saying that they would rather have drunk drivers than stoned drivers, please don't talk out your asses. Find me one source that proves that stoned drivers are worse than drunk ones. Btw, about tracking your car stoned, my friend rides his SR20DET 240Z in the canyons after a bowl, I've sat in the car with him. He did everything well, but did not want to push the car to the absolute limit (already a very dangerous road due to people not knowing how to handle their cars riding the lanes), since he got paranoid about other drivers riding the lanes coming at him.

Also, I would never let anyone who drank drive me, and I've never drove after a beer, which works out well, since I rarely drink (I'm usually the DD).

The people who were already horrible drivers should not be driving, let alone smoking and driving, or worse, drinking and driving, or worst, being crossed and driving (I've only been crossed 2 times and you will have trouble functioning, let alone driving).

EDIT: "A single glass of wine will impair your driving more than smoking a joint. And under certain test conditions, the complex way alcohol and cannabis combine to affect driving behaviour suggests that someone who has taken both may drive less recklessly than a person who is simply drunk." from article.

Just to add, as many have already said, a driver who has smoked can be very different from another driver who has smoked. Whereas, someone who has drank even just a few, almost always behaves the same as someone else who has drank just a few. In almost all cases, anyone who has been drinking will do everything to appear as if they are sober while driving. Depending on how much they have consumed, they might even be more aggressive, or they might just try and drive the exact posted speed limit.

I feel much much safer in a car with someone who has smoked, given the idea they I know that person well enough and know how they drive. Most people I have driven with after they have smoked are actually better drivers. They are more alert and pay more attention to their surroundings, usually drive the posted speed limit or a little below, and are very at ease with their driving, in that they just seem to be natural, kind of "one with the car" type thing. Honestly. It always seems like they know where every other car is, they maneuver the car very smoothly and is a comfortable ride (not that that really matters), and I have been in a car twice with someone who has had to navigate the car out of potential harm, i.e. someone pulling into the roadway in an unsafe manner, or someone just driving like an idiot on the roadway (crossing a few lanes at the last second realizing they need to turn the other direction at an upcoming intersection then they were prepared to do). In all honesty, based on the people I have been around, I'd argue that the roads would be safer if everyone had smoked *some* prior to driving. :p
Now, I do have to argue against that very same notion though, because some people, when extremely stoned, almost lose themselves in the surroundings. Sometimes they 'space out', miss a turn, or if in an unfamiliar area, easily get lost because they don't know where to navigate and lose their sense of direction. So the amount smoked, and other variables, can make the driver more hazardous.
And since every person is different, 1) with their driving skills while sober, and 2) with their coordination and motor-control after smoking, I'd have to say it's definitely better for everyone to be sober and that smoking can become a hazard. Yes, it's different for everyone, and unlike drinking, it's far more easy to get away with smoking and driving then drinking and driving. And for those drivers, I don't care, because if they can get away with it, even when driving near an officer, then most likely they are good drivers. But as a rule of thumb, being under the influence is more hazardous then not - regardless of what has been consumed. Everyone is different and people will always be able to get away with it, right or wrong, and good driver or not.

I have driven more miles than most people have in their entire lives. I have had one accident, by myself. Being stoned was not a contributing factor.

There is no possible way I could have driven over 100,000 miles in the last year while drunk with only one minor accident.

I will leave it at that.

I was going to say the same thing. I have logged so many miles stoned, without a stoned accident. I had one accident, but it was sober, and it was a $700 fix (drove my friend's 240Z and damaged his extremely low front lip while pulling into a parking spot (touched the rectangular curb-like stopper with his front lip).

Some people make the mistake that since driving stoned is safe, the same can be said about drunk driving, which is a huge error.

Sure it can be dangerous/irresponsible, but I do it on occasion anyway. One of my buddies and I got into the habit of driving over to a secluded spot, smoking, then going to see the movie. I generally try to discourage smoking while driving since it takes your attention away from the road, though. And you would be automatically fucked if you got pulled over. I've done some stupid stuff while driving stoned, but never inherently dangerous. For example, one time I was driving 30 mph on a 55 road at 2 AM (I sped up once I realized how slow I was going).

Under the influence is under the influence. Drinking and driving and drugging and driving are the same. Actually, alcohol is a drug. Same-o same-o

The public shouldn't have to accept your consequences.

Thanks for giving me enough reason to vote No on Question 2 in MA.

so, you're against me smoking in my own home? because if it was driving you were concerned with, the roads would be much safer if alcohol were prohibited.

while most know the effects of alcohol, most don't know the effects of weed.

I don't recommend driving under any influence but being on marijuana is nothing like being drunk.

It depends.

For somone who rarely smokes weed the effect on things like driving performance is going to be pretty serious & would be very close to as dangerous as driving drunk.

On the other hand most heavy/chronic pot smokers driving ability wouldn't be effected much at all and the same cannot be said for alchohol.

However regardless of this, by far the best option is to avoid driving under the influence of anything other then coffee/Red Bull etc.

When I would get uber stoned, I would drive home and not remember dropping my friend off 8 miles away from my house or getting back home. I haven't operated a motor vehicle high since i hit a parked car last december.

Edit: I forgot I drove my golf cart around this summer while under the influence. that doesn't really count, though.
