Im driving to Vancouver BC on wednesday for a mini vacation.

I checked online and says that US citizens dont require a passport--a photo ID and social security card will suffice. I friend of mine says i need a birth certificate and ID. ANother friend says just an ID will suffice. Another friend says that since the nation is in alert for terrorism, all US citizens require a passport.

I dont have access to a certified copy of my birth certificate before wednesday.
I dont have a passport.
I do have my SS card and photo id

anyone travel to and from the canadian border recently? what exactly do i need? or what can i get away with?
 
Photo ID usually is all it takes for me to get into the states from Canada, Canadian laws are even more lax than that, so that should be alright...
 
You need 2 $100 bills and a six-pack.

Or you could check the website. I think a DL and an SS card will suffice.
 
I take my passport but the US guards on the way back in have never asked for more than my drivers license. I don't recommend taking your SS card anywhere. Birth certificate would be a better idea.
 
Drivers License and Birth Certificate or Green Card. You'll probably just be asked for the DL, but they may ask for the Proof of Citizenship BC/GC. If you have a Passport it wouldn't hurt to bring it.

Don't bring any Guns though, they'll be confiscated.
 
Last time I crossed into Canada, they didn't even bother checking my driver's license.
I have a passport just in case they want my ID.
 
The last time I crossed, all they wanted was a DL. We took our birth certificates just because their web site said to, but we were never asked for them.
 
I have crossed into Canada 1 time at the I-75 crossing. Had the Wife and 3 kids in the car. Was not even stopped by a Canadian on the way into Canada. On the way Back we were stopped by a U.S. border patrol officer who asked if we Live in the U.S. (Wife answered NO we live in Florida!! duh! ). He smiled and said to go on our way. Never showed any I.D. either way nor did we get searched either way. Of course this was Pre-9/11 security so I would imagine there is alot more involved to cross the border now.
 
thanks for the help guys. Tomorrow morning me and some friends are canada bound. now we just have to figure out what bars to go to.
 
drove to ontario from NY in early january. Going from US to Canada, all I needed was a ID. From Canada back into the US, they asked for a passport & ID.
 
I would highly recommend you get your birthcertificate and licensce. Also try to avoid going through the peace arch border crossing, try going through one of the other border crossings. Less busy, and less border customs aholes.

If you use the Truck Border crossing near Langley, when going back to the US, avoid the good looking US Customs chick. She has a reputation of sending people in to get checked out for frivolous reasons. I was snagged a month back and when the guy in the office saw who sent us in he just rolled his eyes and stated how much he hated working with her. 😀 He then proceeded to explain to someone else where all the Speed Traps were, LOL.
