Driving time lapse

That drive was a bit over an hour or so.

Would be cool to do one driving all the way to Toronto actually, that's an 8 hour drive. 😱 I don't think I'm going to do that drive just for the sake of a time lapse though, and it's probably already been done anyway. 😛

You're normally ok doing 15 even 20 over, though I possibly did push a tad more than that at one point when I was passing. 😛 I wanted to try to make it before it gets too dark as I hate driving at night especially on the highway where moose can be a problem. Interstingly on my way there (earlier in the day) I saw a transport that had hit a moose.

I probably should have setup the time lapse on my way, but forgot to set it up so just did it on the way home. Was around 9ish so was starting to get dark.
 
Did you have your gopro in a certain mode or did you record normally and afterwards do a "time lapse" type of post processing? Just curious because I recorded most of my ATV trip in Aruba to the natural pool and I've never edited it or anything, and it would be pretty cool to do something like you did so that it turns 20 minutes into a few minutes.

I have the Gopro Session 5 and there's different modes. I used the video time lapse mode, where it takes a picture every 5 seconds but automaticly does the video for you so at the end you get a single video file of the time lapse. The app is a pain in the ass to use so thankfully i was able to mostly avoid using it, but basically how I have my gopro setup is one button press will do video, while a 5 second press will do time lapse video.

I used to use my DSLR for time lapses and the quality is much better, but doing time lapse with a DSLR will produce lot of wear and tear on the shutter/mirror, and it tends to be limited to about 999 pictures which is kind of a pain if you want to do a very long time lapse like say, a whole day. You also have to use software to put all the pics together. So yeah with gopro it really goes well.

I started experimenting with vlogging so I bought this for when I want to do odd supplementary video angles, or time lapse, while main DSLR will film what I'm doing and phone in selfie mode for actually talking. (Eventually want to get a proper camcorder)
 
Ah okay I see. I have a GoPro 4 Silver and I agree the application on the computer is fucking terrible. That's a big reason I have never really messed with editing stuff.

Yikes, hitting a moose is no fun.
They can weigh up to 700kg / 1400 pounds.
Like hitting another car while that car is standing still.

While driving in northern ontario last June i just avoided hitting one, it's tail just grazed my side rearview mirror,can be very large animals. It takes around 10 hours for me to reach Timmins, it's a nice drive once your past Barrie if you don't mind rocks and trees and some trees with rocks

Yep it's no fun. People sometimes die from those accidents, though it's been a while since I've heard of it happening. They are tall too so with a car you go right under it and take out the legs then it lands on top of the car. Even with a transport I imagine it's a big enough impact for the driver to get shaken up enough depending on the weight of the load. Most trucks have pretty solid steel "moose bar" to take most of the impact. Sometimes moose get spooked by something and just run into the road and they are hard to see at night.

My coworker lives about 45 minutes from the city and commutes for work (actually mostly along part of that same stretch), and he hit one with his pickup years back. Well it's more like the moose hit him. The moose ran right into the side of the truck as he was driving and it basically side swiped the truck. Coworker was fine but it startled him and did lot of damage to the truck. Was a brand new pickup too lol! Like was within months of him getting it. Never found the moose, figure he did not get hurt too badly and just took off after.

If I recall I was doing night shift so he called me to say he won't be coming in for a little while because he hit a moose! I think that is like the most Canadian reason to be late for work.
