Anomaly, like i've said before, if you want something that is closer to a racing simulator, you want Forza 3.

If you're looking for something that more of arcade style, you want either burnout or Need for speed Shift/Hot Pursuit.

I'll probably try BOTH!

Now I need a decent wheel!

NFS Shift, and NFS Hot Pursuit are two totally different types of game. For games like NFS:HP or Burnout I wouldn't bother with the wheel. The controller will probably do a better job.

I just did the 360 Forza 3 demo with the standard controller and did not like it too much...

I'm thinking a wheel and peddles would help a LOT...

Is steering more TRUE with a wheel than with the standard controller?

Thanks!

Yes back on topic please...

My picks are:
GRID - Fun arcadey racer with a tremendous sense of speed, and awesome damage models.
NFS Shift: More of a sim racer, but still a great sense of speed, and the cockpit view is awesome.
Dirt 2: This isn't what I would call a "pure" rally game, but it is still fun nonetheless, and would work well with a wheel.
Forza 3: I haven't played it myself, but I've heard good things. Btw: just because a game is bundled with a console doesn't mean it's a bad game.

I second this. I haven't played much of NFS Shift, but NFS games are arcade racers.

I played through 99% of Grid on PS3 and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's fast-paced and is a lot of fun. I didn't get to 100% completion because I accidentally deleted my game file before I won the very last race - still pissed about that one. I'm sure it's no different on the 360. I've been playing through Dirt 2 on my PC and it's also a lot of fun but I haven't spent nearly enough time on it because I picked up Forza 3 again which I have for 360. About 25% done after 250+ races - gives you an idea of how many races the game has.

My wife is giving me GT5 as one of my Christmas gifts (I know because I picked it up for myself when I was at Fry's picking up Donkey Kong Country Returns for her). I'm planning on dedicating many future winter nights to playing that. I'd say that GT5 and Forza 3 are more serious racers. If you have friends over and want to play a racing game against each other, unless you both have experience playing Forza 3 it won't be as fun as playing, say, Grid or Dirt 2 or a NFS game which can easily be picked up for the casual gamer.

Because the AI isn't patchable?

It's sad that you think it's ok just because they would be able to fix it later. For how long it was in development, we shouldn't have to settle to wait for it to get patched. It should have been right in the first place.

New to consoles and want to try some driving games...

1. Which ones do you guys suggest...?
2. What's a good steering wheel/gas/brake device to get...?

Thanks!

Well, since your new, you shouldn't get something expensive. Try things out. That is why I recommend the Logitech Driving Force GT. It is not very expensive (100 bucks) and works on multiple platforms, except on Xbox.

But it will work on your PC,PS2,PS3.

I was wondering why a thread was just started debating GT5 or Forza. Then I saw it was over 8 months old. Waiting for my free iPod.
