i once did Houston to L.A. Straight, by myself, no joke...most ridiculus drive ever, i took 2 naps in rest areas, took me just over 24 hours...and about 15 cups of coffee and 10 energy drinks

Did they let your brother go?

?

The gangsters that demanded you bring them the drugs from Houston. Did they let your brother go, or kill him anyway?

haha...

no basically i was driving home and was going to just go to the texas-new mexico border and sleep for the night, but got there around 8:30 at night and decided to go to the new mexico-arizona border (another 4 hours)...so i got there around midnight and could still was driving...so decided to go to arizona-cali border...another 4 hours...got there and it was like 4am....and just figured it was only 4 more hours till i got home...so why not finish it..

basically i just saw it as 4 hours trip at a time

I just did the trip from Seattle to LA, no rest except for gas refilling, took me a total of 15 hours and 45 min to complete, and I was alone too! My advice? Don't drive, take the flight!

Yeah, but the best part of driving is the lady in the blue blazer who gives out the little bottles of liquor. Really makes the drive fly by.

hmm going from the most conservative part of US, to the most liberal part :Q

If you do it too fast, it causes your brain to shatter, just like glass going from hot to cold water.

Thats actually was my line of thinking toward the end of my trip.
It was like only 200 miles till XXX, and when I got there, hey only 100 miles till XXX so I kept going and going.
My last part from Vegas to Sac was a breeze.

Never skip a gas station once you hit West Texas.

AMEN!!!

Go the speed limit, these western HiPos think they're all John Wayne.
40GB Ipod with extension to car stereo
Plenty of water just in case.
A slight aversion to hitchikers
A gas can full of gas (It can be hours till you see anything man made besides the road)
Oh and plenty of dough

Austin is the most liberal part of TX, it's our own little slice of California.

In addition to music, I'd sugguest some books on CD/tape if you plan on driving late. I've made the trip back and forth from SC to KS a few times now (about 1200 miles one way) and the killer part is always that midnight to 5am lull where it's just straight highway and road noise. Music isn't very stimulating to me at that point, so I listen to comedy (Eddie Izzard and some classic stuff like Abbot & Costello, Jack Benny, Edgar Bergan & Charlie McCarthy) for more stimulating stuff to keep my brain going. I also like to bring a small cooler with some water and heavily loaded (sugar/caffine) pop to keep me going when it's late. Plus I usually toss in a couple candy bars for a quick fix when I'm in the middle of nowhere.

Don't forget common sense stuff. Check all of your fluids and tire pressure before you leave. This is just a personal sugguestion, but I try not to drive it down to below a quarter of a tank of gas before I fill up. I usually start looking around for a good place (I like bp/Amaco gas personally) to fill up a little before the 1/4 mark. Like I said though, that's just a personal sugguestion. I don't like driving my car down to the E ever and sometimes you can get caught between two towns where you don't see a gas station for miles. Especially when it's late, those mom and pop gas stations on the side of the interstate stand a good chance of being closed and leaving you in a fix for gas.

Good luck. I hope you have a safe trip.

Actually I just drove from Fla to Cali.
All you do is take I-10 and that will take you all the way to LA.
Make sure you follow I-10 to Phoenix and then it will go straight to LA.

Additionally, as CTrain would explain, lock your car stereo up in your trunk when you stay at a hotel and when you get to L.A.

LOL, listen to the wise man.
The boringest part is from San Antonio to El Paso...its a long trek with nothing along the way.

tell me about it...i went from sa to el paso with my parents when i was younger and i thought my head was going to explode.
