I've done the trip 15 times in the last 5 years

stay on the 5 the entire time

I presume you're going 5 -> 580

It shouldn't be bat at that time. Figure it'll take you about 5-6 hours to get to SF from LA and what, 2 - 3 hours from SD to LA.

I didn't know you were out on this side.
I will be for the next week. Brief visit to SF then back to SD. I hope I find the time to keep posting Alba pictures while I'm out there too !

Did I just say that ?

Why don't you just fly to SF? You're going to spend 2 entire days just driving if you drive up there and back.

Where in SD are you staying?
Too pricey... we are flying from NY into CA (prices from NY --> SF were significantly more $) ... and my bro has to join us in SF also (he's currently in SD)... figure may as well drive it. We're staying at his apt. west of La Mesa.

EDIT>> How is La Mesa (or just outside of it) anyway ? Should I bring a weapon ? :D

You should be able to fly that with southwest for what, $50 round trip? Well, if you book in advance of course.

Southwest apparently doesn't go to SF. ;) Expedia has "from $255 per person".

Unless it's an "internet special" (whatever that is), it's at least $100pp x 3. Figure if we drive it... it will be < $100 roundtrip in gas with a Civic. No real rush anyway, we'll be there for 2.5 days... plenty of time.

that is exactly what I am gonna say.... from the point where 4-laned I-5 becomes the ghetto-looking, 3 laned one at Buena Park, all hell break loose.

I rarely took 405, so I don't know what to say about it, but for sure I know there is heavy congestion where it meets with the 10. (UCLA area)

I've never been to La Mesa so I have no idea how it is.

I'm near Carlsbad which is right on the coast.

yes, he lives just past it, near the Alvarado hospital. How convenient for party people to have a hospital right there too...

San Diego State is at the eastern side of the City via I-8 or University Blvd.

La Mesa city limits are a couple of blocks east of there (SDSU). It was a fairly nice bedroom suburb of SD itself back in the 80's

stay on the 5 especially if you're leaving at around 9am. by the time you get top LA it will be 10:30-11:00am and there shouldn't be much traffic, if any, at all. Continue on the 5.
