Do you close the gap or let them cut in front of you?

If I notice the move coming I always close the gap. 😀

Close, kill, destroy, scream in rage and generally take years off my life (then do the same as then, when I later found myself in their position). Self-driving cars are the only the solution to human selfishness on the road

depends on my mood. sometimes ill let them cut in front of me but then i'll just cut them off on the next stretch of road. usually i don't care and let them in though. otherwise it'll just hold up traffic.

When two lanes merge into one, close the gap for sure. You always see people trying to cut ahead in that right lane and they damn well know it ends. Just slows everyone else down.

this sums me up until I retired from the workforce, now I avoid high volume traffic, when it does happen I will let them in (unless it is a BMW driver) and maybe make a gesture that they can not see.

Are we talking about passing the line in a traffic lane or doing it on the shoulder? On the shoulder they're being pricks, have no problem blocking them.

But too many bungholes don't know how to drive and start merging way before the actual merge point. Use the whole lane until the merge point, that's what it's there for.

I let them in because its what i do also 🙂 I see it here on some 2 lane highways where the left lane might go down to one lane ahead and people start lining up like 3 miles out in single file while the cones are like 3 miles ahead. I just go to the cones and merge in 🙂

I always let them in, because I do worse stuff myself some days. With that said, I have been know to hog the middle of road at the mergepoint if someone way in the back makes a run for the open merge lane and it starts a stampede.

It is all herd mentality, watch a few sheepdog videos on the internet and you know the best way to drive.

we have a road that goes 2 to 1, and I "make an agreement" with the left laners. I pull fully into the right lane and just match speed with one of them in the perfect merge position. They always get it. the asswipes sit back there and fume, and I take it all the way to the point.
If we let them keep flying by it hoses things up for quite a while.
Edit: around here they will write you a ticket for sitting in both lanes.

but too any bungholes don't know that and think they are passing the line, so they close the gap and make it worse for everyone.

20 years ago I would have been aggressive and closed the gap and possibly curse them out, but now at 48 I let em cut. We've all been there on the cutting end.

If they are on the shoulder or something stupid, fuck 'em. If it is a merging lane and they are going to the end of it, I'll let them in. I am in no hurry and one car in front of my isn't going to be the difference.

I have to deal with that on a daily basis. Seattle morning traffic I-5 Southbound Express. At the end of the Express only one lane continues onto I-5, the rest has to exit including the HOV lane to the left. This bottleneck creates quite the nightmare as the one thru lane becomes almost a parking lot. Consistently see assholes using the HOV lane to cut in line. I do not leave space for anyone to get between my vehicle & the vehicle in front of me but Seattle drivers are courteous to a fault. On a consistent basis the cutters are let through.

I like this idea a lot actually.

That is how it is supposed to work. It makes it feel worse to line up miles back...if people would just merger correctly such as every other car the line should flow just fine. It becomes a problem when you get idiots who try to block a lane when it is open and intended for merging up ahead. Instead they block the lane and bog it down. The same thing goes when two or more cars try to get in front of one car and they bog it down as well.

One of the first streets I use when leaving work is set up exactly like this. Two lanes merge into one - and I hit the lanes right in the middle so whoever thinks he is slick doesn't cut me off.
