So I'm 17 (shush, I know I'm late doing this) and I'll be going to take the Pennsylvania driver's license test tomorrow. I already have a small car to use for the test so it will be a little easier, especially on the parallel parking, which I'm very good at anyhow. I just wanted to see if anyone had any tips (other than "don't crash") for me to help me pass the first time.
 
I failed my two driving tests (no girl jokes, please) 'cuz I failed to do a proper stop and then didn't enter the freeway properly. That being said, on my third try, I borrowed me mum's landrover and the dude just kept looking around the car and not paying attention to my driving... needless to say I passed* 😛

Make sure to keep a good distance with the car in-front of you, watch the road at all times, use your directional signals and don't answer your mobile during the exam 😉

it aint hard...use blinkers, dont speed, and dont hit a curb or a pedestrian..if you don't do these you'll most likely pass.

edit: check your mirrors often too..think exxagerated head movements
 
I was half tempted to bring an SUV to the test but that would be a right nightmare for parallel parking... My friend was telling me that her friend (who is quite attractive) wore a low-cut top and other provocative clothes and passed without leaving the lot. Don't know how true this is but still funny nonetheless.
 
be safe. you don't get points taken off if you don't make a right on red. it's not mandatory, and if youre not comfortable with it, sit tight
 
Don't talk to the tester, they may consider talking a driving distraction. Hands at 9 and 3, you know the drill. Always adjust your mirrors when they're in the car, so they know you're taking the proper steps. Jesus Christ don't forget to check your blind spots, even if for some reason you know there's nothing there. Don't run ther amber light, even if you're just coasting through.

That's what everyone tells me, but I find it hard when cars behind me honk at me to go but they say I'll get used to it and tune it out.
 
@LoKe: I've heard some of that same stuff as well, especially the blind spot one, but the "don't run the amber light" is new to me.

You're legally allowed to roll through an amber light, but if you accelerate to make it, you're screwed. Just don't risk it.
 
Good point. I've taken driving lessons, so I think that I should pass the test fine. I've listed the things that I should do to ensure a victory:

1. adjust mirrors
2. use turn signals always
3. check all mirrors when turning always
4. drive about 5mph under the speed limit
5. dont run the amber light 😉
6. dont talk to the tester

Also, I wanted to ask, how do they grade you? Do you get a certain number of screw-ups before they fail you or what?

Here in Cali, you get things like 1 point off for not being all the way in the turn lane, not using a blinker, umm...i dunno what else, then there's things like striking a curb that fails you automatically...i think you can miss 10
 
I sucked at parallel parking in school, but when I did the test I aced it. The test was actually easier because it was between poles, not real cars. Everything else is cake dude.

Yeah and just remember after the test rules 1-3 still apply. 😛

Once your comfortable rules 4-6 do not! 😛
 
1) 2 seconds at stop sign
2) Turn your head for blindspots at all/any turns/lane changes
3) Don't speed
4) keep a distance between you and the car in front
5) At a light, stop before you hit the crosswalk, pretty much at the point where you can see both lines
6) When you stop at a light, just stop and don't roll forward later
7) 2 Hands on Wheel
8) When in doubt...
 
Yeah I really didn't drive the speed limit when I had my permit. Its amazing, I'm going 50 in a 35mph zone and people are still tailing me.... although this doesn't surprise me....
