Ouch

From the SF Chronicle:
More Florida poling problems: Fortunately no one was riding shotgun when this SUV [sic] smashed into a 100-foot-long metal utility pole carried by a tractor-trailer in Springfield, Fla. Witnesses said the rig was preparing to turn when the GMC passed escort vehicles and plowed into the pole.

It looks a lot more like a minivan to me.

Regardless, I assume it makes a better story to assume its an SUV and let the bashing begin.

Hm, I just assumed it was an SUV because that's what it looked like to me. No bashing intended; my parents own a Chevy Suburban that they use for hauling around horses, 4 kids and a Great Dane.

Ummm...The excerpt from the article you included says it was an SUV.

I think the bashing would be more along the lines of "wow, idiot passes the escort vehicles and plows itself into pole."

You are right, but in more cases than not, the bashing is squarely placed on the SUV itself instead of the idiot driver.

People are blaming it on the SUV and it is not even an SUV.

"SUV impales self on pole" People always use sentences like this to talk down upon SUV's.

However, it is pretty evident to see that that is a GMC savana van or astro van and not even an SUV

Looks like an SUV, but the camera angle is funny and makes the hood look shorter+more sloped. That's why it sorta looks like a minivan.

Hard to say though, some of those minivans have awfully SUV-looking front ends.

judging from the rims, grill, headlights and license plate, it looks like the dipsh!t driving the SUV seems to think hes a gangsta or hes cool.

either way, its an SUV, and as said before, you guys are BLIND.

it looks like a van because of the lens and the angle they used; it makes the hood look short and squat, but it looks like a Chevy Tahoe or Surburban to me. I does look awfully like an Astro though. In fact, it still could be, and the article lied.
