Driver Heaven X1800XT OC

I know it's just another boring weekend. The only reason I'm interested is they got the memory to 1790 with no artifacts

that looks sweet...not much headroom in the core but the memory is tremendous... I was amazed I could take my BFG 6800NU 700mhz ddr up to 900 with out artifacts...This is near 300mhz increase...just plain awesome...

So it looks like the X1800XT has a whole load of headroom for you overclockers out there?and if the above performance wasn?t enough to make you salivate you should just remember all of the above was achieved on stock cooling with stock voltage?

from what i heard on xtreme forums the x800xl is basically the x800xt underclocked and can be oc'ed like mad.

nvidia might of won this round but i think the best card right now is the x1800xt if it was released earlier than it maybe ati would of won.

Before you get *too* excited, realize the x1800xt is not out yet. The only cards being benchmarked were the ones ATI sent reviewers. If I was in ATI's shoes, I'd damn well hand-pick the chips which were used to make these cards, to make sure reviewers so inclined would get amazing results from overclocking.

Of course, I could be wrong, and ATI just decided to downspec their hardware by 20-30% because they wish to get an even bigger unsold product inventory on hand.

But I'm guessing once the cards are released, your mileage will probably vary.

ATI was originally shooting for 700MHz core, which they fall short of in their OC.

However unless ATI is doing something special to get the memory to run so fast, I would think it wouldn't be too hard to throw that memory onto 7800GTX boards

Dude, check your first sentence, I hope you meant to add some "1"s into those model numbers. As for the second sentence: what's your point? Are you impressed that ATI was able to get equal performance with several more months work? That is like saying the 9700 pro would not have won its round if the 6800 Ultra had been available. Of course cards will get better with time, what matters is combining noticeable improvements within a reasonable time frame at a fair price. If you cannot do all three (X1800XT is late and overpriced) than you are not going to be dominant, nor do you deserve to be.

Nvidia cant compete ,sure they can throw more memory on 7800 but it wont matter. watch how it scales against the 512 ring bus
