"Driveless" MicroAtx Case?

im quite interested to see one myself, but something that small would have some heat issues and a hint of claustrophobia with dust. do you mean something as small as the mac mini?
 
I mean as small as possible... Micro ATX motherboard probably won't even be using any PCI/PCIe or AGP slots even.
 
I dunno if such a thing exists off the self. I'm running a small server in the office w. mini-itx mobo (VIA Epia 1000)+ 512Mb ram + 512Mb and 1Gb USB2 stick (512 for os/ applications, 1Gb for data). Running DSL, and works like a charm.

The last one is the smallest I've found, but it's expensive because it's aluminum I guess. IAC, be sure your mobo runs the CPU off the P4-12V connector for best compatibility with the small PSUs that generally come with these cases.

Won't even be using a keybord....

I want to put MicroAtx (onboard video) + Chip + Ram in to the smallest case possible with a small PSU.
 
I'm thinking about using a thumb drive as a hard drive... I might be doing external wireless to my network for NON-OS files.

Maybe this is going to have to be a custom project? Hrmm... I hope not.
 
Every design I've seen accomodates some sort of drive. HP as recently come out with a Mac Mini-alike, but it's not cheap and it has a notebook style optical drive.

MicroITX and NanoITX are expensive. Cheap is my main priority. It's not going in a car or anything, so 9.5x9.5 is an "OK" size for home theater integration. What I'm looking for is a case that is slightly bigger than this size that doesn't include spots for drives.

MicroATX Mobo = $40 Socket 939 + (My Old Ti-4600) or $65 w/ onboard Geforce 6100

Add in 512 MB of value ram ($40) and an old OEM ($50-$100) processor. I have a thumb drive already.

I've seen nice MicroATX cases w/ cold cathodes and temperature sensors and everything for $70 ish. (PSU Included)

I'm thinking in the range of $200 and use the parts I already have, or splurge a bit more for a tiny case if it exists.

Again, quality and speed come at a far second to price and size.
 
build your own case out of plexi
go to your local hardware store and say... "how much plexi can i get for x dollars?" and then say "well gimme that much please"
 
I just received an announcement from Linspire that says that AOpen is introducing a miniPC (I think it is a barebones) that will come with Linspire or XP ($100. more). You can probably find info on it on the AOpen web site. It looks pretty small (they say it is 6.5 inches square by it looks like 2 to 2.5" high) and uses Pentium M or Celeron M processors.
