Cop was wrong. But I don't think it was worth $60,000 of tax payers money.

Yeah it might not be worth 60k, but it sure should be worth firing his dumbass and giving him some minor jail time.

Is all of this training just a waste of tax payer money? Someone enlighten me here....
I think background checks and training are useful in preventing some problems. However, people change. The fact that you passed a background check and training 20 years ago doesn't mean you are safe today. Stresses come and go. Who knows what was going on in his life in the few months before this incident?

No amount of training or background checks can prevent 100% of problems from ever occuring. But what if they prevent 50% of the problems? Is it worthless to stop only half?

Stealing 10$ of his change. Which she didn't.
That tape should have been suffucient to get that guy off the streets. He pepper sprays somebody over a mistake he made, while some real crime goes unattended to. brilliant.

We call this civil suit. May the force be with her in her persuit of financial apology.

So I guess technically she could sue the heck out of the officer on a civil suit then... however, I didn't think cops made more than 40 to 60K a year. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I believe that with overtime quite a few police officers are making quite a bit more than 60k/yr. Just looking at NYPD salary figures, base salary of a regular PO with 5+ years on the job is 59k.

He should have been sprayed by her with a can of OC, then fired and prevented from ever holding a government job (or any position of authority) ever again.

i think it could have been handled better if she got a lesser sum of money and the cop gets fired or suspended with out pay (perhaps jail time)

but as for the register, i believe the manager said that there were no 20's in the register at all

i think the manager should have done a better job of sticking up for her...especially if he saw that there were no 20s

another good question is what would happen if she fought back?

i know if some one maced me for no reason at all i would probably try to throw in a swing or 2 if i was able.

in any other situation it would be self defense right? and if it were against a cop im guessing that would be different...

I have a feeling she would not have accepted a simple apology.

Of course not. She doesn't like the $*%& police anyway...they shouldn't have put her brother in prison.

well the cop could go back since he t hought a crime was commited.

i just want to know why the dumbshit was kept on the force. If he can't pay enough attention to see if he gave the girl a $10 or a $20 i worry about other stuff he does out there.
