I reinstalled win2k on a co-workers dell laptop the ohter day. I also used DI 4.0 and gave him the disc. Could I use that same disc on my dell laptop to restore my OS if I encounter a problem? The only differences are
-his has a 10GB hd and mine has a 20GB.
-his is one partition and mine is two.
his has 256MB RAM and mine has 512.

Other than that the machines are identical. So would I encounter any problems with any of the above mention differences? I realize the product keys or whatever are not the same but I do have my own. Anyway to put in mine either during the Image Restore or afterwards?

First install the image on your laptop and start Windows.
Go to the registry and edit this function:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WPAEvents]
"OOBETimer"=hex:ca,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00

Then:

Choose run from start menu and type in this command:
%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a
to get the activation screen and go to the second option which is activate by phone.
In the new screen choose the option to change product key, and type in the new product key.

If it brings you back to the prior screen after entering the new key click remind me later and then reboot.

Close that window, reboot your system and enter command "%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a "
for the second time to verify your activation , you should see "windows is already activated".

Hope this help. (It is for Win XP but should work with 2K)
