drive 2-3k miiles a year on 1 car with Mobil 1 Synthetic

Use regular or high mileage oil and change once a year.

The biggest thing you get from Syn oil in most cars is being able to go more miles on it. In your case you are hitting a time limit before the milage.
Anyone else vouch for the above rationale? I'm in a similar situation and am undecided on using synthetic or dino oil.

My understanding is that synthetic oil is more stable. This allows it to last for more miles AND more time. For the minor price difference (and it really is minor) I feel that synthetic engine oil is worth it.
 
I always wait until this light comes on.
