will both worn your excitement out after first 6 months of use? I saw Nexus One demo and it looks better than my iPhone 3Gs (I had it for 6 months now) even though I find some hidden easter candies on the iPhone 3Gs.

I have both right now and I'm torn on which one I'd rather keep. On one hand you have the Nexus One which is a blazing fast phone. It's very noticeable that it's faster than the Droid. The caveat is that you're on T-Mobile which can be hit or miss depending on where you use the phone (this can apply to any carrier though).

For what it's worth, I don't like the Droid's form factor and I've never been a fan of physical keyboards. Verizon's network is much more broad than T-Mobile's but you're definitely gonna pay for that privilege.

I bought both of these phones out right since I loathe contracts and one has to go so I can put $500 back in my pocket. I'm just not sure which one. :(

If you wait till March, April or May, then you can purchase the Nexus One on Verizon.

Yeah I saw that as well. I don't mind paying Verizon's prices but I get much more for less money with T-Mobile. Of course that depends on signal coverage as well. I'm still testing some things as far as network quality goes but if I had a gun to my head now, I'd say the Droid would be going on ebay for the time being.

I'm beginning to wonder if the Nexus One is truly so much faster than the Droid, of if it's a matter of Android 2.1 versus Android 2.0.1.
Hell 2.0.1 made the Droid snappier than 2.0, and based on the hardware graphics acceleration potential of the Droid, the OS just seems to have some unoptimized animation code.

Of course we really just have to wait for 2.1 to arrive on the Droid, with correct hardware support/optimization from Motorola. I do think that will indeed be the case though.
Yes, Snapdragon is fast, but the Droid's SOC is no slouch.

2.1 is supposed to hit January 22nd from what the droid forums say. It will have some good improvements and should be faster.

But, honestly, I don't see how anyone could think the Droid is slow? I got mine a week ago and it's freaking AWESOME. I'm coming from an HTC Touch Pro. That thing was such a POS and I'm so glad I got a droid.

I'm going to make an unpopular prediction...

Google will walk away from the Nexus One, and give it back to HTC.

so far t-mobile is holding just fine vs my work at&t blackberry bold in the places i need it to in the nyc metro area, and 3g is fast. but, verizon would be the best bet for a network we all know. at the same time i can enjoy paying 79.99 for what i need.

the nexus one has been pleasant to use so far. the only issue is battery life. i am quite surprised i dont miss a physical keyboard very much at all within only a few days.

There is nothing confirmed for Jan 22, just a boat load of wishful thinking.

Well I've gone back to the Droid for the time being. This was mostly due to T-Mobile's coverage. I wanted to see if it had improved, and it did but it's just not quite there yet.

Guess my next stop will more than likely be the Palm Pre Plus when it's out in a week or so.

Well, I've had the Droid pretty much since it launched. Still pretty fresh and cool to me. I guess it's going to get an extra dose of excitement once we get 2.1 pushed to it.

It'll get old after a while (like anything else), but I think things like apps and just the fact that it's a smartphone extends the lifespan of some of that coolness.

I hope there are pretty damn sweet phones released come March as that's when I can upgrade. I was all set on getting the next best Android phone to be released on the VZW network, but the Nexus One doesn't come out for it until.. April or May probably, and I don't think an existing customer will be able to purchase it at a reduced price so I'm left waiting for another great Android phone. But once the Palm Pre Plus was released, I remembered I was extremely interested in that phone when it first came out, but I thought it was just going to sail away, but now, I'm extremely interested again.

Let me know how you like the Droid compared to the Palm Pre. Basically, all I'm looking for is, how you like the Android OS compared to WebOS.

This is my impression as well. After seeing a hacked rom on the droid run rather smoothly, it's my impression that 2.1 shouldn't be too much of an issue for it. No doubt snapdragon is faster, but may not be as drastic as it's being proclaimed to be.

my wife is up for a new phone in april, she wants something that will be easier to text with. i'm definitely considering the palm pre plus for her.

Sure thing. Since I apparently like to blow all my money on cell phones lately (lol), I'm interested in seeing how webOS really is. From what I've heard people really do love it it's just the hardware that's lacking more or less. The jump from the iPhone OS to Android was pretty amazing mostly due to true multitasking. I'm expecting similar results with Android to webOS. Can't wait.

You're going to love webOS. It's really the best. And I love my Droid and envied iPhones anytime before that.
just can't stand the devices.

?

It doesn't make any sense. That would be like Google turning it's back on the concept of Google Experience phones.

If anything, Google is just going to help push other manufacturers into the Google Phone arena faster.

But really, I don't understand the logic behind the Google Phone program anyhow. Well I mean, sure... it's an awesome concept, but terribly implemented. They charge an ETF as well? Why are they directly involved with contracts anyhow. I've heard you cannot even buy the phone from T-Mobile directly, and the whole contract system screws over current T-Mobile subscribers.

I cannot foresee Verizon accepting THAT method, so when the Nexus One arrives on Verizon, I imagine it'll be like regular business for Verizon. And hopefully at that point, the Google.com/phone portal will simply be relegated to what it should be: a portal that holds marketing material and all support services from Google themselves for Google Experience phones. Of course, this will be only for the new phones that would be considered Google Experience phones.

It won't be an abandoned project, because that's exactly all it is, sort of a project. The Nexus One is not "THE Google Phone", it's simply the first phone for what might be considered "Google Experience v2". Ultimately, I guess we'll see the true direction Google wants when the Nexus One reaches Verizon, or more importantly, what happens when Motorola releases their first phone on the Google.com/Phone portal.

You'll love WebOS. It's gorgeous and makes multi-tasking/surfing extremely easy and smooth. Easily beats Android OS and beats iPhone OS in many areas as well. Only thing it needs is more apps and better hardware and it seems it's getting both once it goes to Verizon since it'll get more people interested in WebOS and develop more for it and they improved the hardware.

Do any of these newer smartphones lag when they have little to no service? I have a Palm Centro with Verizon and sometimes when I have no service the phone becomes unusable.

I suppose it feels "laggy" and slow because it's taking a long time to pull data over a weak connection. When I used the Nexus One where I work, which is more or less a dungeon thanks to the super thick stone walls, the phone was slow with anything involving data. Other things like listening to music or making calendar appointments were speedy as usual. Not really sure how a weak signal could affect the actual performance of anything else. Weird.

Yea the entire phone becomes laggy. Not just texting or data. I'd assume it has something to do with the older OS, was wondering if newer phones still had these problems. Luckily Verizon has pretty good coverage.

I might be dropping in favor for speedy Nexus One but until my contact with ATT expires on June 2011 unless 2011 will bring a better 5th gen iphone or nexus three or ATT 3G improvement.

it may be because the phone is doing a lot of work in the background scanning for / trying to register on a network? once it is connected, the load may be lighter?
