drinking water after drinking alcohol

the water spreads the alcohol more throughout your system right? I heard it like doubles the effeect of the alcohol essentially? dunno .

Edit: I know that you guys are thinking about hangovers, but I'm talking about the effect of alcohol and being drunk/buzzed/tipsy. I know that having liquid in your system helps to prevent a hangover or to at least lessen the effect. However, to drink water right after alcohol I hear is bad. I usually wait a bit after I'm ready to sleep before drinking a mug of water.

Edit: I'm not talkign about like 20 shots or anything or heavy drinking. I'm asking this because my friend took about 5-6 shots and she threw up.. People wanted to give her water but someone else voiced this theory...

I always chug 3-4 cups of water after a night of drinking. It's nice to wake up without a headache :)

Never heard that, but it's certainly a good idea to drink plenty of water while drinking heavily.

Many people swear by drinking lots of water before bed to prevent hangover.

uhhhhh... alcohol dehydrates you, water rehydrates you. Always drink water at the end of a night of boozing (if you're still conscious enough to think about it)

The way I see it is either drink the water before snoozing or expect to wake up at least 2 times in the night for water. I prefer the sound sleep.

Bull of sh1t!

Hangover, and even alcohol poisoning leading to death, is exacerbated by dehydration.

Always drink plenty of water, no matter what you're doing, especially in warm, dry climates.

Water never hurts you, unless you drink many gallons in a very short period of time.

Drinking water does not increase your buzz. If anything it decreases it. The water will increase your blood volume and thin out the alochol ppm (parts per million).

Not true.
You still get the original buzz because the alcohol already went through your system faster than the water could stop it.

Course. make sure you don't drink TOO much.
Or you'll die

If I'm wrong. bring it up with my health instructor.

What he said, minus the fact that it decreases your buzz that it does not. The excretion of alcohol from your system is a Zero Order kinetic reaction meaning nothing will affect it...(besides the person's own body).

No, the alcohol will be absorbed through the system very quickly anyway. The water will not make you more drunk (your body has a lot of water anyway, the amount you drink is relatively small).

It may make you sick to have a stomach full of water though when you're already buzzed. You should still drink some water to rehydrate you ASAP, especially if you went to the bathroom a lot. Otherwise you will feel very dehydrated in the morning.

This man speaks the truth.

If I don't drink a bottle of water or two before bed, I'm up 5 hours after I go to bed when I get drunk.

Which, is why I'm drinking water right now!

Giving her water won't make her feel better or worse if she's throwing up from drinking too much.

Hangover is the result of dehydration. Drinking water throughout your alcohol-consuming evening will lessen or completely dismiss a hangover. :)
