When I occasionally work tech support, depending on who's in we'll drink til close. Being buzzed makes dealing with users a LOT easier.

when i worked a dot-bomb a couple years ago we would have TGIF parties every other Friday and they would stock the fridge with beer, chips, and a lot of other things. Well i worked weekends there as well and on the following Sat and Sun me and the other co-workers would just get hammered since no calls ever came in and no supervisor ever was there on the weekends as well.

I had a boss on a construction site many years ago that setup a 2nd office trailer for myself and several other workers. He put a fridge in there, so obviously we stocked it with beer. We heard he was coming down one afternoon, so we naturally unstocked it.

Boss came in the office, went to the fridge, and opened it. He then asked us if we were FVckin morons. He wanted a beer. He said we'd better get some beer in that fridge for the next time he comes down or he is taking the fridge away from us. What a nut. Well from that day forward we kept a six of his brand in the fridge.

a previous job i had in the uk, we would often go to the pub at lunch. there was so much of a drinking culture at the company that the servers were named after the local pub's !!

we would often go to the pub at lunch for a long lunch, but in the end they stopped people going when they noticed the number of people going out at lunch wasn't the same as the number of people who would actually come back when their lunch break was over

When I was in my late teens I worked at a country club as banquet server (serve, teardown, setup for the next day). We'd do back to back weddings (Saturday night, Sunday afternoon) so we'd have about 10 hours between shifts. Our manager was cool about providing the beer so long as we got the job done. We always did

yes, but they actually serve beer in the "cantina" at noon so you can grab yourself a Stella Artois to go with the fries

alcoholism is totally accepted in Belgium :p (j/k)

When I was a bank teller, a customer brought in some Bailey's. It was one of our small-town branches, it was Christmas Eve, so we started early. :)

At my current job the boss buys two cases of beer every friday for the office, thats prety cool.

At my old job at a fast food joint, we used to drink when we closed at night. The gas station was next door, so we would go get some 24oz or a 40oz for each of us.

His name wasn't Randy was it? I used to work putting gutter, soffet, etc. on multistory buildings. The boss (Randy) always had a fridge full of beer. I did not drink any because of the heights involved. My second day working with him we were on a roof and he told me we had to have a "safety meeting" I thought I did something wrong. We went into the trailer and he told me to shut the door and he started rolling a joint and told me to grab him a beer. That dude was fvcking nuts. High and drunk running around 50-60ft in the air.

To pay for his habit he would put the aluminum stock we had where the Lull operator would run over it making it unusable. Every Friday we made a trip to the recycler with a few hundred pound of aluminum to get money for the weekend.

I've never mixed drinking and work. Once, I did have an "allowed" beer during lunch and the rest of the afternoon was miserable. Now, some clients offer me drinks when I'm working in their homes, but decline until the work is done.

No, I am talking about actually sitting at your desk and drinking something with alcohol in it. If you haven't done it yourself then have you known someone at your job that does it? Sorry...bored@work-with-2hrs-to-go-post. I just woke up from a 5 minute nap at my desk and need something to do.

At my previous job... small management company right on times sq... the bosses used to treat us to drinks/beer once in a while, and some of those times they just went out and brought it back to the office... it was known to happen whenever the team was stuck working late...

I got high once while on the job. That was many years ago though.

I also worked at a company that would have a happy hour one Friday each month from 2:30PM on, there was beer and wine served along with food. I liked working there but the commute sucked.

I worked at a small gas station in my late teens. The boss kept a fifth of Seagrams in the pop machine. We would occasionally buy a can of squirt and mix in a little whiskey.

Closest I've come is going to work on NyQuil. That being said I think I was likely more f%$#ed up on Nyquil than I would have been if I'd drank my breakfast.

i'd drink on the job

...then i'd also turn in my high paying salaried position.

I work at a police department, so the only intoxicating substances I take in while I'm at work are donuts.

Never done it (if, as you say, lunch doesn't count). I met a guy who works for a breathalizer manufacturer. He said that at 10am they would often present him with double shots because they had to do preliminary tests of their new products/developments. He's happy they haven't done it in a while....'cause getting hammered for a week straight, bright and early, really kinda sucks....but getting paid for it rules.

Hmnm. Head girl took a month off on christmas of 2003. I was leaving for a two week vacation in the next couple days and so worked 12-15 hour days for a week straight. Me and a guy that only had about a month of experience to help me. Around 8-9 every day as it'd draw to a close, we'd order a pizza and have a six pack.
