drinking (alcohol) alone at home - what's the point?

i don't understand the point of drinking alone, even at a bar but esp. at home.
if i'm having a steak dinner at home with the gf, we'll bust out a bottle of red wine, but if i ate the same dinner alone, i wouldn't bother.

i drink to loosen up at parties with friends since i'm a different beast when inebriated. getting drunk alone is just... i dunno, pointless IMO.

so who drinks alone?

I enjoy the taste of beer, so I have beer at home all the time with my dinners and whatnot.

I rarely drink to get drunk anymore, I drink because I enjoy the taste.

Some people will have one or two drinks alone at home just to relax and unwind.
And others just like the taste of the drink with dinner and enjoy the combination.

There are different levels... Having some beers with food or while chillaxin is fine. Getting shit_faced...I don't know.

Nothing wrong with a couple beers with dinner.

I do occasionally get pretty smashed by myself though, comes with having a shitty stressful job.

Not everyone that drinks, does it to get drunk.

I treat a nice stout the same as a bowl of ice cream. I like the taste and enjoy the relaxing quality of a delicious brew.

Who says it has to be "fun". I have a glass of wine with certain dinners because it complements the taste. You don't eat a steak to have "fun". You eat it because it tastes good.

Likewise, a glass of bourbon can be relaxing. I think you drink for the wrong reasons.

Sadly, I am becoming allergic to alcohol or something. After one drink my heartrate increases, I start to itch, and I get a headache. /wrists

I fail to see how having dinner with someone else makes the wine taste better, than alone.

likely true. the only reason i really drink is to get plastered.

i don't like beer, and wine is just meh...
i can relax fine without alcohol when i'm alone.

I don't typically get drunk by myself. Nothing \wrong with a bottle of wine after a particularly painful day.

That's where I draw the line. I love beer, with or without food, but I can't convince myself to drink anything alcoholic alone. By alone, I also mean I can't even go to a bar and drink unless a friend is with me. It just isn't going to happen. I come from a string of alcoholics and drug abusers. For those that know my family I always got hit with the "you'll be an alcoholic just like your parents if you get hooked..." bull shit. This kind of defines that line for me. Granted, I still like to drink and get drunk with friends, but its always safe and always social.

Because I enjoy a glass of wine with a nice dinner?

This is like asking why someone drinks water or soda with a meal at home by themselves.

I do. Usually it's just a couple beers in the evening, as I don't drink pop or anything with caffeine so it's either water or beer so I usually end up having both. I have a roommate now so I guess I don't alone anymore. But I've gotten drunk by myself at home before too. Hahaha, I dunno, doesn't bother me. I'd just play some video games or something.

I love Smirnoff Ice Triple Black, I drink it alone all the time at home. Getting drunk alone is just stupid though.

not exactly.
if strictly from a taste perspective, then yes.
but there's an adverse affect from alcohol (getting hammered) that is not present in water or soda.

I've done it a couple times. Technically I was at home alone, but I was playing on Xbox Live with multiple friends (actual real world friends, not online friends) that were also drinking. Not sure if that makes a difference to you, but I don't have a problem with it.
