Dressing right for the dentist

Hi, I have limited experience visiting doctor's offices so I am asking how to dress appropriately for them. Is it fine to have jeans and a collared shirt with slippers or are shoes required?

I'd go with jeans/slacks, a t-shirt, and a button-down shirt or sweater over the t-shirt.

take off the sweater when you sit down in the chair and throw it back on when you leave. that way you don't have to worry if you have to go back to work or something and there's any spray or spillage on your shirt.
