Dreamweaver is such a pile of crap!

It crashes about every 5 minutes, takes about 45 minutes to do find and replace, is even slower when searching for regexes. Half it's windows are "always on top" with no way to turn that off, and have no minimize button. It takes about 3 years to search for broken links. It lists things like "http://mysite.com" as orphaned files.... argh....

I use ultradev 4.0 here at work and i must say it is a pretty nice program to use. I agree however eveything takes about 10 times longer than it should. Heck i can load up textpad and make 1 change in the time it takes me to load a doc in dreamweaver...do a find and replace....would take about 10 mins. There text loading scheme can be programmed a lot better and hopefully that will all get better once Dreamweaver 5(mx or whatever its called) is released 😀

<< Version 4.01 on win2k. It's crashed on me twice since I started this thread. >>

That's every 4 min then 🙂 You need a different version or something. I've used it in the past with little problems 😉

notfred,
this is sounding awfuly strange, have you tried installing it on another computer and try working on it there for a while, it could be some software that is conflicting with your dreamweaver

Weird, I've never used Dreamweaver on a machine that's had problems with it. Used it under Win 98, Win 2K, Win XP Pro, and Mac OS 9 and it's always run just fine. (More than I can say for Frontpage.) Has it been like this ever since the install? Or is this a recent development? Did something possibly happen during the install to corrupt parts of it?

I need more than an HTML editor. The idea is that I get a whole Site management tool with Dreamweaver.

Sure, it didn't crash for you guys, but were jsut making a couple webpages, or were you checking for broken links in 1200 html files?

I'm not having problems dropping pictures into webpages, I'm having trouble trying to manage several thousand files. It has a tendancy to crash when ever I save changes to a broken link.

I jsut reinstalled from the CD, hopefully it works better now.

<< Reinstall, reboot, crash.

Fck this bullsh!t....

I think its your cars fault. Your computer i telling you to sell that old POS and buy yourself a top of the line 1987 Toyota Tercel with a massive 5 Type R stickers.

Anyway, I've never had Dreamweaver crash on me. I use UltraDev4 too. The find and replace searches take me like 5 seconds through about 2000 lines of code.

Yup. I do some heavy searches and editing with DW. Anything by Macromedia rocks.

Maybe if you didnt install the warez version over and over again....

I have no problems with it on my workstation or laptop.

Well, if he's having a problem with warez vervsion... It won't help you to give you mine. 🙂 Err, wait. No, my copy is perfectly legal. I bought this blank cd legally!

1200 pages? It's nothing to laugh at but that's not so bad. I've gone through well way over that amount having to fix a site with over 3k pages (#includes included), a mix of .asp and .html files.

It was slow for sure but it would have taken me eons to do it manually.

Are you sure it's not a hardware/software conflict? Or perhaps even lack of memory?

As for the floating windows. I don't see why you can't minimize or close them. If you minimize Dreamweaver as a whole, all floating windows go with it. Additionally, each of those windows have an "x" button. If you want you can also go through Window > uncheck whatever on the menu bar. Short cuts also work to make them visible/invisible.

Just trying to help out. 🙂
