Dreamweaver alternative, wysiwyg html editor

I thought I would just bite the bullet and purchase dreamweaver CS3, but figured I should try out the demo first. Unfortunately I was unable to get the demo to work, and the error I received seemed to be very common. Adobe has provided no support for all of us who get the error trying out CS3 products. So I really want to find an alternative since that sort of thing annoys the crap out of me!

So what are my options? Don't tell me to use notepad or anything like that, I really want the wysiwyg interface (code and design is nice). Thanks!

Mozilla Seamonkey has an editor. it seems derived from
Netscape 4.79, which also had an editor.

Looks decent. I don't mind paying for something that has a little more intuitive UI and tools. Any other suggestions?

I tried nVu a few years back and it produced just horrible HTML. But then I don't think I've used a visual editor yet that didn't produce crap. I've heard people say Dreamweaver is better than others, but I don't know personally.

For my part I do the design visually, and then hand code it.

The only other commercial WYSIWYG editor I know of is Microsoft SharePoint Designer.

I use dreamweaver cs3 at work. I have never used the design mode. Creating pages that way always produces less then good code.

I concur with the above poster. Dreamweaver Code View is exceptional for things like predictive auto-complete (ColdFusion 8 commands here are great, particularly the javascript API) and syntax highlighting.

Display also is not really that difficult to do by hand either.

NVU has been supplanted by Kompozer, which is pretty good.
another option is Amaya. However, I've never tried it.

Kompozer, afaik, is the next best option, and it isn't that good.
Dreamweaver is in a class of its own when it comes to building html webpages.
