dreams...random or not?

so do you believe that dreams are totally random, or do you think they have a meaning behind each dream that you have...

any experiences?
 
you can sometimes affect what you dream about.

like sometimes when i watch a bunch of morning musume stuff before bed they sometimes show up in my dreams to kick my ass. 😕
 
I love dreams. I'm sure you've heard of the obvious conclusion that they come from your unconcious mind and what not? If you look at it, every dream you remember can be given meaning by something revalent in your life. Now sure, you can stretch ideas with just about everything, but there's something about a dream that just seems solid - even in its abstraction.

I can't really remember any specific experiences, but I catch Deja Vu all the time and I'm sure they're somehow related to dreams.
 
random + influenced by external events (sounds you hear while you're sleeping, things that happened that day, etc).

I don't think they hold any kind of deep meaning, though.
 
I dream a lot, every night i would say that most of my sleep is spent dreaming. However, lately i have not been able to remember any of my dreams, as soon as i wake up ill have fragments of them but as soon as i start getting ready for work they are completly gone.

Its sad too, because i know i have cool dreams, sometimes lucid dreams with color and sound. it would be nice to remember them.

Actually there are only certain states which you can dream in and it is not the majority of the time.
 
Dreams are cool. One of these days I should start a journal and include them...

like the other night I dreamt that I had SARS 😕
 
Last night I had a weird dream. I dreamt that all the buses in my school system had turned into buses / taco stands, and I talked to the guys running the taco stand a whole bunch. Then some where in the dream I licked the abdomen of my friend, a girl. That was still weird. How random was that.
 
One time I dreamed I would be let go from my job, and the next day I was. No indication at all up until that point. Very surreal that morning.
 
Also one time I had a dream where I had the Counter-Strike HUD, and I was fighting aliens from "Signs" I stopped playing CS for a few days after that.
 
Every dream I have had in the past year that I can remember, I can attribute to something I was thinking about the day before.
 
Well when I was a kid I had a reoccuring nightmare that eventually stopped. Then when I started playing an old video game I had it started again... at which point I promptly stopped playing the game. That seems to indicate a lack of randomness, but I don't think in the way you were looking for.
 
They are not always random, but I'm not sure if they always mean anything. I know that while I was thinking of radical life changes I had a dream about boarding a commercial airliner with a parachute and jumping out. I debated with friends whether it was possible or not, and I woke up before doing it or even deciding whether I would do it. I thought it was interesting because the obvious symbolism in that dream.
 
My dreams have no relation to what I've done or watch during the day, but they do stimulate the intensity of the dreams. I get maybe 1 or 2 Indiana Jones movies type dreams a week, and 1 clairvoyant type dream, still waiting for those elusive lottery numbers. Those Japanese scientists seriously need to make a dream recorder.
 
Some are totally random, some have a deep meaning, and alot of them mean you just wanna do someone else...lol

I had 5 male room mates in college and I once had a dream that I ate five twinkies in a row and couldn't help getting the filling all over my face.
