I mean at $9.99 its a deal. For my basic family site it works great. Can someone tell me how to sign up for this?

I picked up this deal for $10 about 7 months ago. They have been relatively good for less than $1/month + domain. Download speeds on my server are good and appear pretty consistent. I'm still keeping my 1&1 and Dixiesys accounts for more business oriented websites.

i've been using dreamhost for about 9 months now. the only outage i've had was the sql server was down (aside from the california power outage last summer) for a few hours once.

they send status emails on your server uptime and issues they may be dealing with. their control panel is excellent (even has a status section for the servers your account uses).

much better service, response time and download speed than my previous provider of 4 years, dixiesys. recommended.

I agree with you - if you're using it for this reason, it's a great deal. But if you want reliability and consistant availability, it sounds like you should avoid DH.

It goes back to about 90 a year after 1st year. I've been using for about 6 months, forum & file storage only. NP, seems to work flawlessly...albeit kinda light traffic.

Is there any way to renew using the code?

I signed up for the "Crazy Domain Insane" one year ago and paid $9.97 for the entire year. Now, my account currently has:

22600 MB Disk (Grows 160 MB / week)
1112 GB BW per Cycle (Grows 8 GB / week)

But it wants $110 for it. Which isn't that bad, but I have another host. Is there a way to renew the plan using the 777 code?

don't think you can renew with the 777 code. although someone in one of these dreamhost threads had said that when they hit renew and type in teh coupon code they see the $10/year deal continue...

alternatively, move to netfirms.com MAX offer, which would give you 20gb storage 750gb bandwidth for $9 or something for a year. they'll move yoru domain for free and give you another domain too. once that runs out, move back to dreamhost with the 777 coupon code 🙂

Rather than coming back, I think they just never turned it off. There's also an 888 for their 8th anniversary that I saw mentioned in their blog too.

they keep changing their signup page.... can't even see the place to input these codes any more.

I just went to the site tonight and when you click on "Managed Web Hosting"
The next page has "Crazy Domain Insane" and if you click the blue cloud "Sign Up Now" button, you can enter that code in and still receive the discount!! (As of 3/13/06)

Pretty sweet even if its sub-par hosting. Im just gonna do it to try it out.. whats $9.24 for a YEAR of hosting??

Im in for a year!

I got in on the $10/year "Crazy Domain Insane" deal almost a year ago for my family site (very light traffic, very basic pages), and it's about time to renew.

I think I'll try renewing using zimu's suggestion and then check out the Netfirms deal. Any other suggestions?

good for downloads, especially larger ones.
not good for webpages or tiny files.

that's my guess, i'm essentially merging dreamhost and netfirms. both have mega overcrowded servers which make them slow as hell to establish a connection with, but once you're in they're blazing fast.

I got on the last CrazyDomainDeal or something like that. They have been good so far. I do NOT like the control panel AT ALL. That is one thing that needs a upgrade. I use the server for my VBCodesource.com
website. Mainly just for the downloads. And so far, the uptime has been acceptable. But the Control Panel really is sad. Well, to me it is.

Dreamhost has been increasingly horrible for me. I don't have a lot of storage or traffic, mostly just hosting my own email, and its SLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOW.

would you mind putting up a large test download, just so we get an idea of data transfer rate?

try http://www.anonhost.net/100mb.bin, which is hosted on the netfirms deal. just curious to see whether they throttle and what not!

I hear complaints atleast once a week over on vbulletin.com about dreamhost.

if you plan to have a mySQL based forum, forget them.

I've used dreamhost for about a year as well and my only real complaint is that webmail is very slow and sometimes difficult to log into. Of course I don't have a web site per se, I just use it to dump files I'd like to have access to from anywhere and I run the WebCal php calander application.

I used up my $9.95 year and renewed for two years at just under $180 (about $8 a month) which seems decent enough. Then I got an electronic "coupon" for $40 at my one year anniversary. I suppose if I'd waited I could have used the coupon against my renewal.

I've found it a good cheap place to mess around with web based stuff but I could certainly see how some would classify it as oversubscribed. If I were trying to make money I'd probably pay a bit more for a less crowded server.
