Dreamcatcher (Possible Spoilers)

I know there's already a thread about this movie, but everyone's asking for no spoilers in there, so...

I saw this movie last night, and I'm really confused. What significance did the Dreamcatcher actually have? How was Dunnits (excuse my spelling) their "dreamcatcher?" So, he was an alien, right? And he came to earth in the form of a retarded human, to somehow warn the guys about the evil aliens invading? Why didn't he just flat out tell them everything? What's with the "room of memories" or whatever it is? That blew my mind. Why did Dunnits lure the one guy across the street into traffic?

WTF is going on? I just sat there and stared at the credits for awhile, trying to sort the movie out in my head. No luck. At least in the parking lot my friend kicked what he thought was an empty cup and created a tidal wave of Coke, soaking himself. Haven't laughed that hard in a long time. But the movie...uh....yeah we're just kinda lost. Maybe it had something to do with us going to the midnight show, after waking up early for work yesterday morning.

Anyway, help me out, please. 🙂

dreamcather - they made those in school and gave duddits one. i think that was the defining moment of their friendship (shortly after duddits gave them power, so i guess that meant they were good friends and could trust him).

he didn't tell them everything b/c then there wouldn't have been a book/movie 😛

the warehouse of memories was just a visual way to show how jonesy kept mr. grey from finding out quickly about duddits, telepathy, etc.

they made a comment during the movie that after jonesy was hit something "changed" about him. i don't know the exact significance, but then again the movie was filled with holes!

i don't know if any of the above is right, but maybe it helped you out a bit 🙂

Didnt see the movie but in the book, I didnt get the feeling he WAS an alien, just able to sense what they were about. An Idiot Savant as it were.

Room of Memories??? A Hollywood addition?? This is why I read the books and rarely see the movies until on HBO.

Argh, I hate it when that's the only explanation. 😉

In the movie I'm fairly certain they came right out and said he was an alien.

he definately was an alien.

as far as him telling them *everything*, maybe he tried to but they didn't understand at first. at the end when they flash back they realize he was saying mr. grey among other things when they were looking for the lost girl. maybe they just didn't realize it.

*edit* he is also in the form of a mentally retarded boy so communication between them wouldn't be perfect! 😛

I thought it was an interesting movie, I liked Jonsey's acting and how they did the whole Room of Memories thing. I didn't totally understand the whole dunnits/alien deal either, I just went along with it. Seemed to me that dunnits knew what was going to happen all along (able to see into the future) while the abilities he gave to the dudes made them able to see people's pasts. Sort of a premonition meets the past to fight evil wormy aliens sort of story, you know pretty common 😉

After debating whether to see this movie or not during the past week, I decided to check it out this evening. I think you've essentially nailed all the points down, hdeck. I also read the book about a year ago and the movie brought back a lot of memories and thoughts that I had while reading the book.

I'm glad I didn't put 100% of my faith in the reviews over at Rottentomatoes.com - otherwise, I wouldn't have seen this movie. I didn't think it was too bad. Granted, things get missed when a Stephen King book is turned into a moview. However, in the end, I was glad to have seen the movie.
